I see media types (and Greg Gabriel) talk about how Poles shouldn’t sign guys like this because it’s a short term solution. The league is so year to year why does it matter? You can’t have every position on a long term deal
Yea, this is a horrible mindset. Fill all the holes and weaponize the cap space while filling depth through the draft. That allows for late round picks to develop behind veterans. Thrusting rookies into playing immediately is a problem. So, short term solutions are great to allow for that to happen.

I dont really agree the free agent class is that bad. People say this every year. The only positions that are atrocious in FA are rb, te, and qb. There's going to be a ton of decent wr options available even without higgins
There’s more experienced somewhat decent QBs this year on the market than I’ve ever seen.

It's cold blooded how teams can just manipulate a guy's career. I guess he can try and force his way out if hes really upset.
It’s what the players agreed to. They aren’t working for peanuts.

Patriots and Commanders really wanted him.
Those are also two of the teams that will be going after all the top free agents that we're all wanting and have a shit ton more money than we do to get them. If Trey Smith makes it out there then these will be two teams going after him hard and same with Josh Sweat and Milton Williams and any other name that makes it to free agency.

Today was JAX's last day to extend Brandon Scherff, looks like he is destined to hit FA. Not the sexiest option but a guy who played 51/51 games the last 3 years and gave up 0 sacks in 2024.
I'm fine with the Zeitler's and Scherff's but i really want to get a younger unit in here to play with Wright and Jones so they can build that continuity and play together for years to come. It would be nice knowing who our starting OL are for the next 5 - 10 years. But i'll take the 1 - 2 - 3 year vets if it'll help Caleb and the running game.

He won’t be going to the Commanders, they just paid 2 guards and a C. I don’t see Pats desperate enough to throw out big money, but I could be wrong. Poles has cornered himself into desperation mode. He helped draft Trey right? Hard to imagine Poles not being obsessed with getting him if available.

Oh i know Poles will be interested, i was just saying that many teams will be interested and some that have more money to spend than the Bears do but didn't know the Commanders recently signed two starting G's and a C so that knocks them out which is good. Mike Vrabel and the Pats will definitely be involved IMO.

Hasn’t Mahomes restructured once or twice already? I thought they did and don’t have much flexibility with his contract anymore. Obviously they can restructure Chris Jones, Humphrey, and other big deals though

Mahomes was already restructured 2x actually. Really nothing more than can do with his contract cause the NFLPA will lose their shit. They do NOT want any Bobby Bonilla or Shoie Ohtani type contracts...

Chiefs went all in for the 3 Peat. Now it's time to pay the Cap Man...

Have the Chiefs really been going all in?

The traded arguably the best WR in the league a few years ago. They traded one of the top corners in the league last year.

They have a history of letting guys walk and or trading them. You make it sound like they’re in cap hell because they’ve been taking risks to keep the train running. They really haven’t though. Guys are going to leave they wish they could keep. But that’s been going on for a few years now.

I looked it up a week ago and he'll have a $60M Cap hit for a couple of years but nothing outrageous. The thing with him is that he has a 10 year contract, so that definitely add a lot of flexibility because the team can spread out the money over the many years he still as left.

Flexibility aside, Mahomes is taking it up the ass with all these huge cap raises. QB prices in the next years are going to get stupid and he has an AAV in the 40's locked for a decade. I don't know what happens when the guaranteed cash is up, but I'd imagine he'd love to get a cut of these massive cap raises.

For that matter, anyone who decided to lock up a player long term made a great decision cause those prices should only be going up. Sucks to be the Bengals who have had their thumbs up their asses with Chase and Higgins.

my guess is the bengals tagged higgins to work out a trade to one of the teams interested in him?

Otherwise, it makes no sense to me paying him 26m when you have that terrible of a defense and joe burrow as your qb.

Well yeah that's the player's problem for signing a 10 year deal. But what I also read in that article is that KC is going to redo his deal in the next couple years... for what that's worth.

I mean… I’m not worried about his money and I’m sure he’s not worried about being broke. But when you’re one of the best to ever do it, you usually want to be paid like it. His contract isn’t horrendous moving forward though, but he’s still making roughly Jared Goff money. If he gets out of the last two years though, then it won’t matter. But from the competitive… hard to compete if one of the best in the game is making under market value, so it’s partially jealousy speaking.
