My favorite teams
I don’t know about “not viewed as too high”. They’d need to maneuver a lot just to apply the tag and that means they’d probably be racing to do that so they don’t tie up all their money and get a late start on free agency.Sports Illustrated: Trey Smithto the Bears doesnt look likely
"The value of the tag for Smith exceeds $25 million but that's not viewed as too high for Kansas City if they did want to use a tag-and-trade. Nor is the cap itself a problem because they have some other contracts capable of being restructured, or other linemen who might be more expendable."
Also, not sure what the trade market value is to overpay a RG when they could do nothing and settle on a comp pick. Might it happen? Sure… but feels like a lot and I’m guessing the willingness to trade for a guard at a premium is on the lower side. Teams may divert attention to trades like Garrett, Hendrickson, or Parsons, all things considered.
If they did all that, they might as well just keep Trey.
