i would certainly like to get a high profile guy from a high profile franchise(although some of these gms have a bit of room to work with in terms of salary cap), but i dont think it hurts to look at some GMs that work well in lower market systems(doing more with less)..in fact i think those kinds of GMs would more likely to want to become the cubs gm than any of the gms from the phillies,yanks,etc.(although some of those gms from high profile franchises like cashman have certainly shown interest)

Why not the Giants? Cardinals? White Sox? Marlins? Diamondbacks? Angels? They've all won the 'ship in the last decade.

There's just not a correlation.
Then let's sign David Ekstein and Edgar Renteria to play 2B and SS.

Cardinals and White Sox would be stupid to let their GM prospects leave to a rival.

Giants and Marlins won more based off of luck instead being the best team. Diamondbacks are relevant twice every decade. Angels haven't been relevant since 08.

The Red Sox, Yankees, and Phillies have built the best teams in baseball the last decade.
