I need to quit sugar. I got a sugar drink habit in grad school and I get cravings now. Its weird. And dumb.

Sugar is the *****. It's the only thing we really eat on the reg that's like a supplement, but our bodies get enough from real food. fucks us all up.

Dude, grad school is detrimental to your health. I went to literally zero physical activity and sitting in a chair for 14 hours a day to the point where I got sciatic problems so bad I was on the floor for 3 days. My caffeine habit is so bad I can't get a coffee buzz at all, no matter how many shots.

The shit is so intense, I can't deal with anything else in my life that requires effort. Can't even deal with eating food that takes more than 5 minutes to procure.

What Bot's describing is for real. I was exactly the same, and you can add about 3 packs of smokes daily to the equation.

Yeah. But I got through the worst of it. So now I am going through the process of changing back to a healthy lifestyle. And its insane the habits I picked up. Like stronger than just routine. Physical urges connected to stupid shit like sugar drinks and take out food and chips and shit.

That shit is designed to have that effect. What made me finally change was having an entire closet, bottom to top, full of empty pizza and cereal boxes I was too lazy to take down to the recycling bins. That, and I was becoming an irritable, anti social, miserable ******.

I avoid refined sugars like the plague, I also used to drink 12+ cups of coffee a day and now down to 3/4 cups coffee a week. I try to have 3 fruits and 3 raw veggies everyday as well. Red meat, I'm eating more in the last few months than usual, but that's mainly due to the summer BBQ's.

I slip up once in a while and have some takeout, but that's fine IMO as long as it's once a week IMO.

I'm going to make this a lifestyle choice as *** as that might sound, but I will break the "fast" every week starting next month. I can't limit my culinary exploits and will fulfill my desires for fried fish, chicken, pizza, and burgers with buns once a week. But this diet is fantastic and makes sense to me. Fat is GREAT and this food pyramid is fucking Special person.

I'm doing it. Grain Brain. Going for 4 days and was a little fatigued but now feeling pretty good. No more sugar for me fellas. 50 grams o' carbs before noon and that's it bitches.

http://www.drperlmutter.com/about/grain-brain-by-david-perlmutter/

Kinda like Paleo but not as hardcore, kinda like Atkins but without the ketosis.

Anybody here doing anything weird with their diets these days?

There is only one diet that works and that's the old fashioned way. Find out your maintenance, eat under maintenance, and track your macros to make sure you're getting enough protein, carbs, and healthy fats.

Not true at all.

It's not about weight, it's about nutrients. Read "The Big Fat Surprise" and come back and tell me the science of nutrition in the US is sound.

Yea definitely.. but nutrients are for "general health." Heart health, good blood pressure, proper levels of cholesterol etc. It'a always smart to minimize booze, sugar, saturated fats.

But I'm just talking about losing weight. If that's your priority, then the best way to lose weight is to find your maintenance, eat under by 500 cals, and track macros. This is undeniable. This is what athletes and bodybuilders do who are in cut/bulk cycles. Macros baby!

absolutely. i'm not doing this to lose weight though. I'm doing it for a healthy cardiovascular system and so I can ward off dementia. And I DON'T think that saturated fats are bad at all. In fact, I believe that they are essential to good health.

Cool, just read that book. Eskimos, Rabbit starvation, brain food, it's all about saturated fat. Your body manufactures it if it's not getting enough. It's good stuff and tasty. I am just training my body not to crave cheap sugar because it was never meant to get that in the first place.

Transfats are stupid, and I don't wanna eat fats from vegetable oils on this diet, but olive oil, coconut oil, lard and fish oils are all good. BUTTER. I love it and it's good for me. Read that shit. I think it's pretty eye opening.

I struggle with sugar mightily. It takes great effort to stay away. Love milkshakes and lemonheads.. throw those in my face and it's like an alcoholic going back for more booze.

I'm pretty sure they got rid of that nonsense as an eating guide years ago...but yes, the food pyramid is stupid.

Wait a sec, are you saying you don't eat fat sparingly and get in 2-3 servings of fruit? You're MAD!

I love REAL butter. Can't use butter substitutes, they taste like shit. I cook mostly with olive oil, but if I need a cooking oil that's going to get real hot, I use peanut oil.
