I have a new HVAC unit on the roof and I have double 18x18 filters. I get them between 3 and 4 bucks and change them often (60 days or so) but I would love to buy washable and stop trashing out two filters every couple of months, but only if they worked well.

I have seen the spray for cleaning coils and thought about it as I am about a year old on the new machine. Do you get it serviced by someone or do it yourself?

I do it myself. The spray helps, but a garden hose is really all you need. There should be a drain near your system. Just blast those coils and clean the funk. Makes the unit much more efficient.

Will you post a DIY video?

20" by 20" by 1" are literally like 3.00. I buy in bulk and change out once a month.

The thicker the filter, the less air can pass through. Also, clean your coils once a season and you are fine.
That's fine if you don't mind replacing the filters every month and cleaning the evaporating coil yearly.

Using your system to replace the 5 filters in my house would cost me app. $180.00 a year
and I would have to take the time to replace the filters monthly and clean the coil yearly.

Using my system, the annual cost is app. $200.00 and I replace the filters twice a year and I have had to clean the evaporating coil once in the 9 years I have had it, because the premium filters I use filter out almost all of the junk floating in the air.

For me, the system I am currently using works better. It's a personal choice

Anyone used the machine washable ones?

I dont use a machine to wash mine.

I use a vacuum and then take the water hose and spray the shit out of it. Leave it to fully dry and then replace.

Sometimes I would spray it with diluted dish soap and let it soak for a bit before hosing off. I havent done that in a couple of years though. I used to vacuum again after drying, but stopped doing that too.
