I was thinking about that and we had Peppers at the same time as Cutler, granted Peppers was on the way down and not highest paid or anything but ...it's not impossible. This is why you see Belichick jettison guys who are about to get paid and he just has Brady.

Bringing in Peppers was the right move at the time, dude was still a beast. Unfortunately Cutler proved to be meh at best. I really hope this isn't a repeat of that but it's worth the risk, Mitch has no excuse now with Robinson and Mack on the roster. I just hope the O-line isn't trash

lol, no he is just the one responsible for initiating the trade

what an asshole, trying to deflect responsibility.

Maybe he just didn't want to be a Raider anymore? Nothing wrong with leaving a job you hate. Why would he come out and say "EF THIS ORGANIZATION I WANT OUT", not a great thing to put on your resume

So Gruden was gifted a massive 10 year contract worth 100 mill but he is not involved in day to day or player personnel decisions? Lol, yeah sure. Okay.

Not purchasing that.

The browns of the AFC

Well, they should take the shit crown from the Browns this year. It is fair, the Browns took it from them about five years ago, it is time to give it back.

Gruden should have stayed in the broadcast booth. I think he is going to seriously regret taking this gig. I give him three years before he quits again.

Jon Gruden said he was not involved in including the second-round pick that went back to the Bears in the Khalil Mack trade.

Also:

Gruden has assembled the oldest 53-man roster in the NFL in years.

Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com, who has been calculating the average age of every opening-day NFL roster in 2012, reports that the Raiders’ average age of 27.4 years is the oldest roster as far back as his records go.

I’m thrilled being a Bears fan. If I was a Raider fan, I would be livid. They should have signed Mack and found him some help instead of reaching for Miller at 15.

You think he is going to walk away from 70 million?

No matter how terrible you were at your job, and how much heckling came your way, would you walk away from 70 million?

If he gets fired in 3 years, he still gets paid. If he quits, he doesn’t.

If it was anyone but Gruden I would say no. If he was smart he'd make them fire him but I just don't know if Chuckie's ego would let him do that. I can see him three years into the contract going 'Fuck this, I can do some more Corona commercials and not have to deal with the hatred'. I'm sure he will be thinking more about his image at that point than anything else.

I could be wrong but I never really thought he would be with the team for 10 years even if they did become a relevant team. I could be wrong but I just don't see him coaching for a decade when there is a lot easier money saying Spider 2 Y Banana every week on TV.

Quarterback or not quarterback, Mack is a better player than Carr. I get you gotta pay your quarterback when the time comes, but damn, you gotta find a way not to let a generational talent leave right as they're approaching their prime. That'd be like if the Bears let Urlacher go in his mid-20s.

Especially not with quarterback Derek Carr already entering Year 2 of a five-year, $125 million extension and sitting on a $25 million salary cap number.

"I don't know how many teams have done that," Gruden said. "Aaron Donald got signed, they don't have a quarterback that has been re-done yet. I think the Bears made this trade, [Mitch] Trubisky is still on his rookie deal. It's tough when you have two players that are the highest paid at their positions, so the economic part of it certainly weighs in."

Don't see the problem here. Bears could afford him. Raiders didn't 50 million tied up in 3 plays. That is the beauty of having a QB on a rookie deal.

I love how Gruden deflects everything on Reggie McKenzie as if he didn't have any influence on this trade happening lol, sorry not buying it Jon.

exactly...that's why I didn't understand when people kept saying to wait 3 or 4 years to make a trade like this.

I think most Raiders fans understand this. There are a few homers that would want to risk long term irrelevance if one or the other goes down but most understand the cost angle.

What is irritating is that Gruden seems to be shuffling this off on his GM, like he had no input in the decision making process. You can't claim to be in control one second and then play cog in the wheel the next. He acts like he is still an analyst diagnosing why but doesn't implicate himself in the decision, which he had to be party to. He planned on this outcome from the moment Mack hinted at holding out. Otherwise he would have been at Khalil's door trying to convince him to remain with Raider Nation.

"They're trying to divide us," Gruden said. "People are trying to divide us: 'I wanted him gone, he wanted him here.' We made a decision as an organization. [Owner] Mark Davis, [executive] Tom Delaney, we all got the information and we made a decision, together. And I'll just say what [Reggie] said -- I read what he said yesterday -- it's a decision that we all came to.

"I know there's maybe some feeling that maybe I was involved in a day-to-day negotiation. I had nothing to do with it. We were at a standoff and something had to happen, and here we are."

Don't think he was blaming Reggie. He was saying it was an org decision and that he wasn't directly involved in negotiations with Mack.

How true that is who knows but it was not about just Reggie and he said we not they so he is including himself in the decision.
