Since people kept bringing up older gen versus newest gen games in the top 5 games thread I thought we should have a thread to discuss your old favorites....

My first gaming console was Sega Genesis.... I remember a number of games, but General Chaos was on of my favs:

Magnavox odyssey 300, my first console. It was a Pong system.

But then I eventually got a Colecovision ADAM and a regular Colecovision with the woodgrain top panel. Venture was my main game. Super awesome. Eventually got an NES though, that changed my life like most kids of the generation. I don't consider most of the NES as pure nostalgia, because so many games still hold up today. Where the colecovision... hah, as much as I loved the coleco, the best games were clones of other games and the controller is trash. Although the super action controller (aka: The Rocky Controller) is still great.

My friends had the Odyssey, Atari 2600, etc., but my parents didn't get me a console until the Atari 5200, so I was a little late relative to my friends. But I did the majority of my gaming on the Commodore 64. Man, I loved that thing, and I still reminisce sometimes with a C64 emulator. I had literally hundreds of games that I acquired via 300 and 1200 baud modem and I used to trade with some dude from the Netherlands. Then I quit gaming and didn't come back until Xbox, with a short stint on Genesis and PS1.

I never had my own systems as a kid, my mother was very anti-video games.

But, I would play at my friends a lot.. early on we mostly played Sonic and some fighting game that I don't remember what it was.

Maybe your mom was protecting you from Wolfenstein 3D

Zombies Ate My Neighbors was my favorite game for Super Nintendo. Use to play it for hours on end. Actually have thought about buying a Super Nintendo just to play it again one day lol.

I started on a Colecovision. That joystick was something else. Having to insert different cards for different games and the disk control!!! Loved it and was blown away by the entire system as a young kid. Then the mighty Atari system showed up and changed my life including E.T.

I never thought anything would get better than the original N.E.S. and boy was I right. N.E.S. is still the best game console of all time. Legend of Zelda is still the greatest game ever made and I play it once a year still. I have never had as much fun with any of the modern game consoles but that is just me. Other than the Mario Kart series from Super Nintendo on and some of the Zelda series I have had a hard time getting the same enjoyment out of games. I'm not a full on gamer though I just fiddle about..fiddle about.

Started with the NES. Castlevania and Mickey Mousecapade were two of my favorites. Then to the SNES with Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Jurassic Park, and Power Rangers The Movie.

I never played that game, but for some reason just looking at your pic reminded me of an early 90s game i loved on the amiga for some whatever reason - cannon fodder.

i remember they ported it for snes and the genesis at one point - never played those versions. however if you never played it and have mame - check it out.

I had a lot of favorite games from the early 80's but this game takes the cake as far as the c64, the music was great for its time. it consistently whooped my ass when i was 5-6.

Hah... as a matter of fact, this is where 7th grade me got my screen name from. AOL wouldn't let me have general chaos so I went through a bunch of different names untill Mass Havoc stuck.

The first game I owned was Super Mario 64...I'm a youngin I know. I did play many SNES games at my friend's house though. Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, and some fighting game which I can't remember at the moment were the most common ones we played at the time. He had a bunch of the classics too. We soon moved on to Pokemon (and the corresponding Pokemon Stadium) and Super Smash Bros though if we were to play games with some Star Fox mixed in. We also played a lot of NFL Blitz on the N64...fun times. Y'all are probably like "that ain't even old!" but I have those nostalgic feelings so there! :elephant:

I remember playing a Jurassic Park game on Sega Genesis..... I remember not fully understanding wtf I was supposed to do lol.... I mostly ran/drove around looking for a T-Rex.

Two of you can't remember their fighting games?

:smh:

2D fighting games are awesome. Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat are the two big ones, but other gems existed. Final Fight, King of Fighters, Clay Fighter, Primal Rage.

Now that you mention it...it was probably Street Fighter for me. I have a hard time remembering because there were lots of fighting games and over time I played quite a few of them.

1 or 2 players at once. LOL. The "or" in that statement could be seen as marketing engrish. One player at once!

Oh another game my friend and I played a bunch: WWE vs NWO. We'd just try to get all the items on the outside of the ring and bash each other with them. Eventually we played the game semi srs and unlocked all the characters and stuff...but then we couldn't save the game lol. He ended up leaving his N64 on for a few days before we decided to play something else.
