Jed ran the Pads in 2010. That team on paper sucked. They were in it and added Miguel Tejada and Ryan Ludwick.

I believe they would do the same.

I don't know where they will get the money from. Theo has already stated that payroll is "maxed out".

Teams magically find hidden bags of money when needed. That is all BS.

But, .500 ball is not going to cut it. They would have to be in the play off hunt. I do not see them adding unless they are next to the Reds in the standings.

IMO. If they get beat up by the Pirates and the Reds here there is no way they add. They will be looking at July to sell off Feldman/Dejesus Garza they will probably field offers as I doubt he will resign on a bottom dweller when he could go and be a #3 on the Yankees next year.

This series really is an important crossroad. The Reds and White Sox after it is going to be tough to get close to .500 against. So going 1 for 3 or worse against the Pirates would like mean four or five consecutive losing series, and a record that would be at the 10-15 under .500 mark which would guarantee the sell-off.

It comes down to how they are doing on the head to head match ups. If they get stomped then the team is not good enough.

.500 over the next few series is not enough they have to be gaining ground.

That is just to think on being a buyer.

But I'm more worried against Pit. 2 LH starters. 3 RH against Reds. Cueto and Garza match up. That one is more winnable due to the pitching match ups.

Still 1-2 then a 2-1 is still .500 in the end. going nowhere fast.

I agree, but Cubs have played well against the Buccos here the past few years. Reds and White Sox have been a much tougher matchup during that same time frame. It would be nice if this team started to play at the rate the second and third order pythagorean record suggests they should be. That would put this team a game or two under .500 at the deadline if they started today, but still probably isn't enough to avoid the sell off.

Well that takes care of that. Bullpen needs to hold onto a lead now, and walk out of here with the W.

I think last year's "MVP" is done.

Can someone remind me why you always have to play the lefty-righty match-up? I mean Russell, granted he walked the guy, but he has an .052 ERA versus someone who has a 7.5 ERA.

Since the better hitters make an out 7 of every 10 times at the plate, I would put and keep my better pitchers out there. Throwing a struggling pitcher into the fire is not a good move in my opinion.

The brass has a lot of work to do still on this bullpen.

Ransom clearly safe there. Huge swing to start the inning with an out instead of runner on first.
