He did well against backups. Time to give him some starter snaps at guard or center to see how he fares against real NFL tier players. He didn't look good against our backups in camp when they played him at guard.

Probably because he's a natural center. I know you and I went back and forth after the draft in regard to the Bears saying they wanted him to play guard with me thinking he should be the center. I am personally hoping he gets moved to center and stays there. I think Whitehair will be a better guard than Daniels.

I still have my reservations about him being strong enough to handle playing guard at all if he's put at guard on the starting line. I am not particularly worried about him playing center. He will win more often than not with technique at center. Daniels is one of our future linemen regardless of what I think though. I was only saying that I doubt he would start over Whitehair unless Cody stunk it up.

I have no problem paying HawkBear his $10 if Daniels starts at center game 1.

I think the ultimate OL will have Kyle Long at LG and Whitehair at RG. I'm not so much worried about how they line up next game (though I'd like to see the 1s get the entire 1st quarter with Daniels at least coming in at C halfway thru), but in the dress rehearsal game (usually the 3rd PS game, but 4th this year due to HoF game) the Bears need to line up with the team they expect to go into Week 1 with.

That goes on both sides really. Lynch needs to be back. Robinson, Howard, Gabriel need to be on the field. Trevathan out there. Be nice if Roquan was at least in the stadium by then.

You've come around on this one. You were pretty adamant about him playing guard after the draft. My concern then were that the knocks on him were as you stated, not being strong enough. I was in the camp of - he was one of the best centers in college ball, let him play center. Personally, I just want him to succeed regardless of where he plays. I just think Whitehair will be better at guard than center and a better guard than Daniels. Time will tell.

My personal opinion is that whomever our best guard is, should be the one playing next to Massie to help him out. If we are again in a situation where Long is playing like shit next to Massie then that side of the line is going to be a huge problem. All I know is that as it stands I am still trying to figure out why we didn't keep Sitton for the last year of his contract.

The Bears seem pretty adamant about drafting players at one position and then switching them to another position. Whitehair was a LT in college IIRC and while he doesn't project as a LT in the NFL I believe he would be way better suited as a G. He was thrust into the Center position and has done a solid job, just not the long term answer there IMO. That would be Daniels. Daniels may not be ready week 1, he is only 20 still, but the sooner they make this switch the better.

Week 1 is a month away. He'll be ready.
