well its also basically just a seaport island autocracy with some cheap food and convienient flight connections to places with a lil more going on. like a more exotic version of charlotte NC with less/zero national heritage but a greater historical link to the royal navy.

Good ... morning? Well, have a great day whatever time it is.

I live in South America and log in several times a day, but, then again, I am not on vacation.

Enjoy your vacation.
That is very neat that you live there assuming that you are a American like I am assuming you are and if that is the correct assumption where do you live in south America? I was thinking of buying a property in Mexico City but then I went there and it is a little too Americanized where I was looking so I kept on looking and it was a little too impoverished to feel comfortable both in terms of safety and in terms of not speaking any sort of Spanish very accurately so I am looking at coastal and mountain types of places further south passed Mexico so where are you and how do you like it?

A bit south of Mexico, like Brazil.

I live in the San Diego of Brazil (or so I imagine San Diego being). Sunny and about 85 to 90 year round. A potential rainy season from March to June but not that bad.

It would be problematic because of the language issues (Portuguese, not Spanish). There really aren't a lot of areas that can be considered English-speaking communities.

Like most South American countries, there is more crime than there is in the US in general (the type that people are robbing to earn their livelihood, not the U.S. type where there is crime because you are different than someone else).

Being so big, Brazil will probably have the type of living that people want somewhere but not everywhere. I believe that southern Brazil might have much more English-speaking people and somewhat cooler temperatures, but never Chicago winter type of weather.

When you say crazy expensive are we talking like four bucks where it used to be three?
Well, my wife and I have been in Vietnam and you could get a big bowl of Pho for 50K dong which is equivalent to like 2 USD. Here in Singapore, we go get a noodle chicken dish they have and it is 20 SGD which is around 15 USD. Then we are at a good Japanese place and it was well over 300 SGD. I thought it was good but overpriced. Still a good trip.

Is this a reference to Rio de Janeiro? Or are you talking about something like Vitoria, Recife, Florianapolis etc? My impression of Rio's weather was that it was a little more erratic (and hot) than just a steady 85-90 degrees. I was there in the dead of winter and it was pusing ninety.

Either way I think it might've been my favorite overall city in the world and I'm taking Portuguese right now because there is some thought for us to return for next years "winter" for a few months. Sao Paulo was impressive too, top five food city I've ever been to.

Just went to those two places and Amazonas. Really felt like I didn't do enough, I'd like to check out Bahia, Espirito Santo and the Pantanal if I ever really get the chance again. The south would be great too but I am occupied the best time of year to visit those places.

Did you go to the hawker centers? Last time I was there was actually early March 2020 and they were all closed for "cleaning", but before then they were always well under five dollars US for a pretty good meal. That and Zam Zam, every time Zam Zam.

No, we only spent time by the Marina Bay and Sentosa. Ate that Japanese dinner at Sands Resort.
