Interesting story. I used to work at Motorola for 12 years
It happened at about 12:50 in the afternoon at the intersection of Meacham and Drummer Dr. in Schaumburg (between Motorola and Embassy Suites).
A 23 yr. old blew through a red light just as I was making a left turn. It's 6 lanes divided with a left turn lane. There was a left turn arrow and oncoming traffic had a red light for a long time until that arrow. The guy was probably going 40-45 when he hit my truck, ripping the front wheel right off and spinning me 90°+. Shit flew everywhere in my car. I was pretty shaken up but got out the truck to see if the guy was OK. He wouldn't even open his window, probably thinking I was gonna pull him out and beat him senseless. No other car stopped to see if we were OK or to offer to be a witness and there was a lot of cars at the intersection.
Anyways, as cold as it was and with traffic going by on either side of us I went in the police car to stay warm and answer questions. I asked if he checked the guys phone to see if he was texting but he said no and didn't seem to want to bother checking. Later, the guy that hit me stopped for a second and said that he was sorry and had swerved to avoid a stopped car. I told him it was stopped because the light was red and asked him why he blew through the light. No reply and walked away.
Bottom line, even if shaken up and dazed, make sure to press the cop to look into things if you are not at fault. Now it's just my word against his. Also, if you witness an accident at least give the not at fault driver your phone number or email address.
Yes, but I was in salesMy Dad was in the design department in Motorola up until 84... any chance you were around at that time?
We're you turning left on to Meacham from Drummer?
Glad you're ok, op.
