CHS is right. You guys don't know the law. It is perfectly legal to steal a bike provided:

a) The Bike is chained to a pole (or tree or fence) when there is a bike rack in the area.
b) The victim is videotaping it and
c) it's a white guys bike in a black neighborhood. (Barak Obama calls this "Economic redistribution")

If the bike had been in the bike rack, or the victim was black, or it wasn't being videotaped then it would've been illegal.

no. i would've dropped him for a couple reasons, 1.) for being a racist. 2.) for trying a bike to a pole in the middle of the sidewalk. 3.) for actually shoving a camera in my face and 4.) for touching me.

That guy handled the situation a lot better than I would have, I know as soon as the guy would not pay me for the lock and threatened me I would have beat the life out of him.

I am really surprised someone did not steal the bike while it was unlocked and the owner was confronting the thief.

i am actually surprised no one cut the tires the second he walked into the store...most people would have.

Yeah. Nobody looking to steal a bike would ever think to look in a BIKE RACK where there are a bunch of bikes and you could pick out the nicest one, or the one with the weakest bike lock chain!
