How do you know what I've experienced in my life? You don't know anything about me other than the fact, maybe, that I grew up in Park Ridge (a mostly white, somewhat affluent community) and I now live in Topeka. Do you have any idea what Topeka, Kansas is like?

For the last 8 years I've lived on the edge of the Highland Park neighborhood which has one of the worst crime rates in the city. Check out this thread to see what it is like.

Areas of Topeka to avoid: The Oakland area and the Highland Park area, they're both on the east side of town and tend to have a higher crime rate ...

My son lived in Topeka for awhile. We considered it but the crime is very high. I was reading a report on meth this week for the state of Kansas which included info about the drug as well as the gangs and crime associated with it. ...When we were visiting our son, who has since moved, I believe they had a shooting in the library parking lot

...Topeka is a small town with big town crime rates! If you stay out of the neighborhoods mentioned, highland park and Oakland, you'll rarely encounter violent crimes.

I was a deputy sheriff in Topeka for 24 years, and in law enforcement there for 35 years. Crime is everywhere. ... there are safe areas, and areas full of criminals.

i have lived here my whole life ... Violent crime (murders etc) are for the most part between people that are shady to begin with.

The Highland park neighborhood is about 80% black and 15% hispanic. Walk through it and you will see 2 or 3 cars with smashed out windows on every block.

Since I moved here I have had my house broken into and robbed twice, I have had my car broken into twice. The bar I shoot pool at recently had a guy beaten to death with a pool cue. At the bar I go to most often, one of my friends was recently pistol whipped (by 4 gang members) so badly that his eye socket was broken.

You have no idea what I have experienced and I have no idea what you have been through. I don't assume that just because you defend a worthless piece of crap thug, that you are a crack-smoking, drug-dealing gang-banger who lives in a crime infested housing project with your welfare mother, and you don't know who your father is. For all I know, Your dad is a doctor and your mom is a lawyer and you live the life of Theo Huxtable from the Cosby Show.

But I do know this; most people, even in bad neighborhoods are basically good people who don't drop out of school, take drugs or steal from their neighbors. The ones that do are losers who are either too stupid or too lazy to work to get ahead and succeed on their own efforts.

It doesn't matter whether you are black or white or rich or poor. Right is right and wrong is wrong. And for you to defend the thief in this video shows that your parents (or mom or grandma) have failed with you as a person. If you think what he did was OK that shows a severe lack of character. If you follow his example, you will either end up in jail or dead. IDK, maybe either of those choices is preferable to working hard and doing things the right way.

At first I thought you were just playin, just to mess with people and get a reaction. "Nobody could really be this stupid, this immoral" I thought.

If that is the case then you've only succeeded in making yourself look like a complete a$$h0!e. If not, then I just feel really sorry for you.

Okay so the guy cutting the bike lock and trying to steal the bike is obviously in the wrong. I think we can all agree on that point.

Having said that, I am completely fucking annoyed with the guy video taping the incident.

The guy had his camera phone on before he even knew his bike was being stolen. He left it on so he would have "evidence" for the police.

He did when he realized the security guards were afraid to do it themselves. "I'm dialing 911." The guards (even the black one) were obviously afraid that there would be some sort of "gang retaliation" if they called the police. That's why they wouldn't get involved.

Additionally, the victim doesn't have the right to physically stop the black guy from leaving. He put his hands on him and tried to stop him, you can't do that! The black kid would have been well within his right to deck the dude in his face for putting his hands on him.

The "black kid" Threatened him 4 times before he put his hands on him. The guy cut his lock, destroying his personal property and tried to steal his bike, and repeatedly threatened him with physical violence if he didn't just walk away and let it go. I would've put my hands on him too.

Also the security guards are correct when they say they didn't see it. He said/she said incidents are for the police to sort out, not local security guards.

That's why they should have called the police.

Guy should have just called the police and had them deal with it. (again, he did.) Dude's already got the kid's face on tape and more than likely dude has a record.

Good thing he was videotaping it, huh?

And lastly it's a FUCKING BIKE LOCK for God's sakes. This isn't a fucking life or death matter that you need to whine like a little wimp getting bullied on the playground.

Who cares if it was just a lock? it was his property, not the black guys. Is it OK to destroy someone's personal property if it's worth less than $20? or $50? You tell me at what dollar level it becomes "wrong."

The bottom line is that what the "perp" did was wrong and the "victim" had every right to expect to be compensated for his loss and to see to it that the "perp" was prosecuted.

I'm sick and tired of people turning a blind eye to crime and excusing "little crimes."

This country is going to hell in a handbasket, and people like you and the bystanders who were afraid to get involved are the ones sending it there.

Really? That's your best argument? The guy could not see that his bike was being stolen from where he is when the video starts. Now, maybe he started taping after someone else told him his bike was getting stolen, IDK. Either way he had it on for evidence.
