I find it interesting to look back on the post-2006/Super Bowl heading into 2007, would winning the Super Bowl have made the team better in 2007? if they did win, I doubt it has much of anything to do with the outlook with the players they were due to re-sign. I don't see 2007 as a rebuild year cause they lost the Super Bowl, just some players weren't meant to stick around. that's what changed a lot of the complexion of that 2007 team, coupled with losing Rivera and promoting Babich to DC. the team wasn't just bad on defense, it was awful on offense too. every Grossman game was pathetic, and Griese's time was half and half. the most shocking glimmer was when Orton got the nod when the season was lost, and I honestly didn't think he was bad in 2008.

the only thing that would change is it would go from a narrative of "they were so close, and lost it all" to "they won it, and lost it all".

2009 was an even more painful season to endure. at least the Packers still got swept in 2007. the 2010 season was fun, blowing week 17 against the Packers to eliminate them is something I'll never forgive that assbag Lovie Smith for.

You never know. Maybe the Bears ride the momentum from a SB win and have an excellent 2007 season.

Thing is that we weren't even a top 3 team in our SB year. NFC was very weak. Losing Rivera was a done deal regardless of the SB outcome as well and it was downhill from there. Lovie got his new deal that gave him control of the staff and we got Bob Babich and the start of the coaching staff shuffles.:shot:

By my math that looks like a title every four seasons....

yes I came to same mathematics conclusion.. if they didn't win in 04 05 or 06 that is three full seasons. and the second training camp started in 2007 it became over 3years.

Of all the dirt to lay at Lovie's feet...are we really going to blame him for that Week 17 loss? He played all of his starters and his defense kept the Packers to three points in over three quarters of football. We lost a 10-3 game on the back of an offense that just lit up Rex Ryan and the best CB tandem in the league, but still was Dom Capers ***** in the end.

That D in 2007 was also ravaged by injuries....Mike Brown went down for season in Week 1. That Chargers game was physical all game long, we came out of the opening with other injuries besides Brown as well I remember.

But what if Golum hadn't bitten off Frodo's ring and fallen while carrying said ring into the lava inside Mount Doom?

Edit: Here, to stay on topic, then the Bears might still be shackled with folks we should have released.
