I find it interesting to look back on the post-2006/Super Bowl heading into 2007, would winning the Super Bowl have made the team better in 2007? if they did win, I doubt it has much of anything to do with the outlook with the players they were due to re-sign. I don't see 2007 as a rebuild year cause they lost the Super Bowl, just some players weren't meant to stick around. that's what changed a lot of the complexion of that 2007 team, coupled with losing Rivera and promoting Babich to DC. the team wasn't just bad on defense, it was awful on offense too. every Grossman game was pathetic, and Griese's time was half and half. the most shocking glimmer was when Orton got the nod when the season was lost, and I honestly didn't think he was bad in 2008.
the only thing that would change is it would go from a narrative of "they were so close, and lost it all" to "they won it, and lost it all".
2009 was an even more painful season to endure. at least the Packers still got swept in 2007. the 2010 season was fun, blowing week 17 against the Packers to eliminate them is something I'll never forgive that assbag Lovie Smith for.
