I suggested him and Happ together to upgrade a SP slot
So -- is Happ alone good enough to bring you that SP you'd rather have? Because Chatwood doesn't add any value to a trade right now, with the exception of, perhaps, adding an innings-eater to a team that has already accepted they will lose 100 games this year.
Not that many teams, who are 15 to 20 games under .500 and might be looking for badly under-performing innings eaters, have starting pitchers that I would personally think are worth trading Happ straight-up for. Those rare situations, like the Mets with deGrom or Syndegaard, are such that Happ won't nearly get you a pitcher of that caliber. Toss in Bote and Russell, maybe -- and if you want us to take Chatwood off your hands, toss in Edwards or Strop as well.
In other words, in this trade market, getting a team to take Chatwood in a bundled trade means that you lessen the value on the table from your other trade pieces, not add to that value.
You really want to pay in talent just to get Chats off the team? I'd rather keep the talent and let Chats languish in the 'pen until he either figures out how to throw strikes, or decides his game is better suited for the Northern League.
If you hate the guy that much and just want him gone, it's better to DFA him and eat the salary. Because packaging him in a bundle means you need to add another guy into the bundle that you wouldn't have had to add without Chats in the package, just to compensate for his current negative value.
