NICE! A bigger audience to watch me not be able to skate... and Jako, we need to figure out how we are going to coordinate this hockey fight, it may take half a period for me just to skate over to you! haha. But I am going to let you kick the shit out of me somehow... haha

Well, I can move forward, but stopping is a problem. We will dance.

I'll be playing forward on the third...so I'm gonna suck ass!

I am sure you will be kicking ass.

Soooo... what am I supposed to wear with the equipment. I only have skates helmet gloves and jersey, would love to borrow some shin pads at least and I guess shoulder pads if that is necessary to fill out the uni, but what do you wear for pants? Sweat pants? I'm going to look like such a weirdo in a jersey and skates.

I'm not sure, I'm downtown. Am I going to be on the ice long enough to even need them? I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get on the ice. I mean if this is going to be a real type game, putting me on the ice will be playing down a man, even if it is for 30 seconds. are we allowed to play 6 on 5 against rockford?

Have a Skate with Bob. Who's Bob?

About a 2 decades ago, I had the honor, or rather the privilege of meeting a man who really wouldn't change my life. Instead, he would change my reality. This is not that story. I won't tell you of the many ways he warped my reality and my mind. I don't think it was legal nor do I think it appropriate for this post here. I will say this, Bob is one one of the most genuine and passionate people I've ever met. If there's something he wants to do, he completely immerses himself in it and it becomes part of him.

Bob "Kleminator" Klem

He goes by many names. I've often called him the Kleminator. I'll spare you the other names I've called him over they years. He and I have engaged in goal tending duels of epic proportion over the years. We've played forward with and against each other. I've scored goals on him and he's scored goals on me. We've competed with and against each other in as many ways as you can in the sport of hockey over the years. For the record though. I've scored way more on him than he ever did on me.

All that aside, in 1999, an event occurred that would alter his path dramatically. His wife Becky passed away.

At that time in my life, I'd been a year removed from KC and my home town. I'd moved on to Wichita to start my life a new. I was a newlywed having married in the spring of that year. I was working at the rink in Wichita where my wife and I had met and married. I'd heard about Becky's passing through the hockey grapevine. I was saddened. I hadn't known her that well but I'd known Bob all too well and I was sad for him and the kids.

Becky's story isn't really mine to tell. That is a personal story that Bob can share. Bob put me to task however to help spread the word about his personal battle that he's taken up in Becky's honor in the war on cancer. Specifically pancreatic cancer.

In 2007 Bob created Have a Skate with Bob to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. It's grown a lot over the past few years. They've raised thousands of dollars and in 2010 Have a Skate with Bob became a non profit organization. He's been featured in USA Hockey Magazine. He's been featured in KC area news publications and on local TV.

Here's his web site, or you can Google it, Bing it, Yahoo it, however you search the internet for stuff, that's your business. http://haveaskatewithbob.org/

My goal here is simple, it's to help in the fight by spreading the word of this worthy organization. I post a lot about the pointless and mundane things that happen in every day life. The stupid things I do and the stupid things I see. This however is not stupid. This is important. Even as I write this I find myself emotional. Do what you can.

This year the AHL and CHL are hosting Have a Skate with Bob events in 2.

I seem to recall seeing somewhere that Cid and Ymono might be up for playing the anthems, but I cannot find that post anywhere. Does anyone else remember it?

Eruns has volunteered to run the scoreboard, and the PA has been taken care of.

Volunteers to babysit Coach?

Would we have access to the house speakers, or would it be just through an amp?

Yes I will be there. To late to play, and really I'm not sure I would have.
