I'm good with the pick. The kid obviously is not close to being NHL ready, and does look like a project, but the potential upside looks pretty darn good. The guy looks like he may grow to 6'4" and will put on more muscle and weight.

We know the Hawks are good for the next four years, but by selecting Hayes and acquiring 5 picks in the second round, it looks like they are thinking about the four years after that. This is a deep draft and their are lots of good players left. We have one-sixth of the picks in the second round. Fine by me.

Here's some random stuff on the internet I found regarding Hayes. If anybody else finds something, please post.

Re: Kevin Hayes

b-b-bu-but according to the armchair GM's and internet experts this was an awful pick and bowman should be fired on the spot.

Rosh you must be spending time on the O Boards. There was nothing wrong with the pick. Although they probably could have gotten him later as he was projected 47th.

Re: Kevin Hayes

I don't see anything wrong with the pick. Rank means nothing when it comes to the actual camp itself. For what we know, Bowman must have liked what he saw at the Draft Camp.

And of course, since its the puppet doing the drafting, you know who really was likely behind the pick.

He was tearing up the Combine; many said he was the hardest worker there.

Then I'd have picked him as well. If you see hard work and dedication ahead of you, then you want the guy. Talent is nice when you can get it, but I don't want some lazy schmuck on my team.

Re: Kevin Hayes

i admit, i had a look on the o-boards but had to leave quickly as it was killing too many of my braincells.

i like how being an unknown prospect to most of the internet "experts", it must mean that he is bad and the hawks don't know what they are doing. if the hawks went slightly off the board to grab hayes at #24, then i am sure they must have seen something they liked. and i trust professional scouts more than these prospect "experts" who mostly just go from lists compiled by the different agencies and stats sheet gazing.

hayes is definitely a project pick, but seems to have a big frame and good skills to boot. and he also seem to have a passion for the game, which is huge if you want to succeed.

Re: Kevin Hayes

I'll post what I posted on the other thread about Hayes. I'm a huge BC fan in all sports. It will be cool to watch a player who is Hawks property go through BC. Ben Smith already did and his going to be good for the Hawks. Jerry York is an excellent Hockey Coach. He will mold Hayes well. You want a kid like this to get molded in the NCAA. Toews went through UND and we know how that worked.

Those are the kind of players you want. Focus is one of the most important things out there. Big frame, big focus. At least the guy isn't a headcase.

Lets be honest here. We're not going to get a Taylor Hall or anything like that down this far in the draft, but there's been gems in the rough before this deep in. I'm sure with Scotty's background, he'll know what to look for. I trust the management's selections, risky or not.

I was more of a fan of Coyle but to be honest this was just based on hear say. I can't wait to see Hayes at prospect camp and get an actual evaluation on him compared to Olsen, Beach, Lalonde, Kruger and co.

Re: Kevin Hayes

So I missed most of the draft being somewhere without VERSUS... who is Kevin Hayes and is Pickard still on the board?

Re: Kevin Hayes

We should change the title to "Hawks Draft Selections" since there isn't a thread yet.

Hawks pick Ludvig Rendsfelt... Hawks turn again and STan apparently made a deal.

-NHLBlackhawks

Hawks trade pick #43 to Toronto for an unsigned, unnamed draft choice.

-Hawks need to nab Pickard soon... apparently he's still up there. Weal is still available as well.

-Could the unsigned player from the Leafs be Kevin's brother, Jimmy?

Ludvig Rensfeldt

Our #35 pick. Who is this kid? Any Swedes here know anything about him?
