Re: HAWKS 2010 DRAFT DISCUSSION

Johns seems like a good pick.

Simpson? Probably should have taken Pickard when we had the chance.

Hawks need to take Weal with their next pick... he isn't going to last much longer.

Galiev or Pulkkinen then... really surprised Weal dropped that far.

Hawks trade with Toronto for Jimmy Hayes, their 1st rounder's brother. They'll both be playing at BC next season.

The Hawks are going project-crazy. It's understandable, though.

Jimmy Hayes is fricken huge.

If people liked Buff, they are going to love this kid. Much better around the net.

Drafting Kevin Hayes as well, god DAMN the Hawks are gonna be HUGE up front.

Towering Boston College sophomore Jimmy Hayes has developed into a dominant force in Hockey East this season. Hayes has played in all 40 games to date, posting 32 points (12 goals, 20 assists). In last weekend’s Northeast Regional final versus Yale, Hayes made NCAA Tournament Regionals history when he netted the quickest two goals just 23 seconds apart.

Hockey’s Future caught up with Jimmy Hayes at Ford Field after practice on Wednesday.

Re: HAWKS 2010 DRAFT DISCUSSION

So we ended up with 5 Americans, 1 Canadian, and two Swedes?

Lots of size in those picks, so if they work out, we're going to be a huge team in the next 4-5 years.

Re: HAWKS 2010 DRAFT DISCUSSION

Well for the first year in about 3 the Hawks didn't take anyone I projected or hoped they would.

Eh, haven't seen any of the prospects play anyways so who the **** am I to say we lost out on someone?

I'm mixed on this draft.

I'm very happy with the addition of the Hayes brothers, of course its not like we got the Sedin twins here but these guys should be very good NHL players and possibly even top 6 some day.

Why didn't we pick Pickard when we had the chance? Admittedly, I don't know much on Simpson but even a quick google search shows that the guy isn't a winner. Why not Sam Brittain if we had to pass on Pickard? I don't know much about our last pick, Mac Carruth, but with a 7th round pick that's hardly a gamble so I don't mind.

Johns looks like a great pick.

It was evident that Dale wasn't running the draft this weekend, not sure why but it seems like these players are different and don't really have the same intangibles that Dale was looking for. Not really much of the whole "character" thing or "winner" thing.

On the Simpson point, during his draft year M.A. Fleury didn't have a great win loss record but is probably in the top 5 goalies in the league.

Simpson doesn't have terrible stats, actually pretty good stats for an 18 year old in the WHL.
