Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions/Rumors

Question for board capologists. Now that he is waived, if Huet was assigned to the AHL and he refuses to report can the Blackhawks void his contract making him an UFA?

Could it be that Brophey and Taffe aren't waiver exempt when being shipped back to the A and not that the Hawks aren't interested in having them around?

I believe there is already a plan in place for him to play in on a Swiss team once the waiver is cleared.

However, with reading through the CBA, the best answer I find is no. He is off the cap, but not off the books.

If i remember correctly, when PIT sent LeClaire down to the A and he refused to report, they voided his contract. Might remember wrong, though.

Toivennen is on waivers. He'll report to Rockford once he clears.

Leddy and Morin skated today according to Jahns. No Beach or Makarov.

Cuts could bring the team to 25 players today. Looks like Beach, who was -4 last night and Makarov will be in Rockford just as we all heard before Camp started.

<edit>

Blackhawks assigned forwards Kyle Beach, Igor Makarov, Brandon Pirri and Ben Smith, and defenseman Brian Connelly to Rockford.

14 FWs left: Bickell, Bolland, Brouwer, Dowell, Hossa, Kane, Kopecky, Morin, Pisani, Potulny, Sharp, Skille, Stalberg, Toews.

Q on Makarov:

"He needs to play," Quenneville said. "Last year (in Russia), he didn't play a lot of hockey. He didn't get enough quality ice time or enough ice time to improve his overall understanding of the game. He's got great NHL ability in a lot of ways. He's got great quickness and great speed, and understanding how the game needs to be played systems-wise can compliment his overall skill level and speed."

Like both IceHogFan and Myself said Beach and Makaro were slated for Rockford long before Camp started. No surprise for either of them.

So is it to be assumed that Morin is the bubble player?

I've like this kid A LOT, but if it's between him and Skille, Jack has got to get the call. Right?

I think Stahlburg could be on that bubble too. I don't think it's Skille or Morin really. If they both show up?

All of them will probably get some time in Chicago this year. 82 games is a long season.

How Hawks replace Sopel

7:43AM ET

Chicago Blackhawks

One of the toughest holes or the Chicago Blackhawks to fill this season will be the void left by Brent Sopel on the penalty kill. And while Nick Boynton, John Scott and Jordan Hendry are getting looks, the most highly-paid blueliner -- Brian Campbell -- is asking for that responsibility.

"I've asked to do it this year," Campbell tells the Chicago Sun-Times. "Obviously, last year we had a great penalty kill. With Brent gone, I want to be in that role. I want to be in that opportunity.''

Besides being the most experienced of the candidates, Campbell also has the benefit of being Niklas Hjalmarsson's defensive partner at even strength; Hjalmarsson is the other d-man on the penalty kill.

He's still on his ELC and I don't think he has played enough games that would remove his waiver exemption. Some capologist might want to confirm/deny.

I'm pretty sure Morin has been sent to Rockford.

Potulny would have to clear waivers if sent down and I think they fear he'd be nabbed.

Leddy will get the call to fill Campbells spot.

There is not enough Cap space to keep both Morin and Leddy.

So Campbell's injury cost Morin a roster spot?

I'm predicting Morin, Makarov and Beach will each get called up at some points during the season. Kane/Sharp/Morin will be scary good in the future.

not neccessarily. Leddy played very well. You couldn't afford them both Cap wise.

I agree with Frank. They'll all be up at some point.

You could also say Skille cost Morin a spot then Jim.

Stalberg was drafted and signed by TOR to a 2-year ELC after his junior year at Vermont and subsequently played 40 games with TOR last season. The 1st year of his ELC has long since kicked in and he's an RFA after this season.

The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned forward Jeremy Morin to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.

The Blackhawks open the 2010-11 National Hockey League regular-season on Thursday, October 7 when they visit the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center in Denver. The game will be broadcast nationally on VERSUS and can be heard on Chicago’s WGN Radio.
