Re: Makarov signs 2 year Deal
Yea I don't buy Sharp is going anywhere. Center depth is CRUCIAL in any winning team. Probably one of most important components. Without it you don't win the Cup. Sharp > Niemi, both as a player and as a Cap hit. Sharps 3.9 mil contract is Phenominal compared to some of the other contracts out there with similar production.

As far as Niemi holding them hostage, he's looking out for himself and once his name is on the Cup can anyone really blame him? Who knows if he was a one year phenom? It's only 64 games. I remember Mason just lighting it up in Columbus and falling flat on his face. Not saying that's Niemi but 64 games is not enough to make or break a team in goal. While losing Sharp could be.
Excellent point. There is no way they find a replacement for him at the same price.

The ONLY way they trade Sharp is if it's a package deal including Campbell. The ONLY way. I don't see it happening but I would guess Kaberle and Toronto would have something to do with it.

And that royally screws us at Center Depth.

I'm flopping around like a fish out of water the last week. When it looked like we might lose Hjalmarsson, I thought we may as well prioritize getting our salary cap under control this season over trying to repeat, which meant packaging anyone except the long term core players (19, 88, 81, 2, 7, 4) together to offload Campbell's contract.

Then they matched the SJ offer sheet and our top-4 d-men would remain intact. So I flip flopped to thinking they should keep everyone and try to repeat. The signings of Makarov and Skille only enhanced my optimism for this coming season.

Now, if Sharp gets traded, I'll be swinging back over to wanting them to focus on offloading Campbell's contract with the objective to be in a position to be a serious contender for the Cup in 2011/12.

Not that I would ever want to go back to the bad old days, but it sure was a lot less emotionally taxing back then when it didn't matter what happened over the summer because we were going to suck anyway. Ah ... the price of success.

I agree with you we never had to worry about this because we sucked and our players had very little talent. My guess the only way a team takes Campbell at this point is if he's bundled with a good contract/player at the same time.

to keep whats left of the integrity of this team, in my opinion, Sharp is now not movable. Period.

Unless...they try trading Campbell...and include picks - I think the Hawks have 3-2nd rounders next year - thiers, ATL's, and CAL's...

AND we're fucking luck enough to have Sharp locked into that awesome cap hit through the 2011-2012 season! Total. Steal. Of. A. Deal. Period.

Not to mention he is one of the major leaders on this team...

So...

He is a great cap hit for his production

plays a great 2 way game

can play center or wing

leader

and my GF will allow me to continue to be obsessed and will watch all the games with me because she thinks he is hot

HE NEEDS TO STAY!

Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions/Rumors

Sharp keeps Hawks profile

1:39PM ET

Patrick Sharp | Blackhawks | Interested: Antti Niemi, Blackhawks?, Patrick Sharp?

UPDATE: Patrick Sharp said that he isn't worried whether the Chicago Blackhawks will trade him. But he would be disappointed if the Stanley Cup champs ship goalie Antti Niemi, in this story on ESPNChicago.com.

Both Sharp and Niemi are considered prime candidates to be moved before the season as part of the Hawks' continued salary cap woes. The Hawks and Niemi, a restricted free agent, have continued to work on a new contract through the summer, which may be more difficult with Chicago's matching Niklas Hjalmarsson's offer from the Sharks. Chicago may eventually have to chose between the goalie or the sniper.

---

As the salary cap crunch continues with the Chicago Blackhawks, winger Patrick Sharp, a subject of several trade rumors, continues to make appearances for the team.

On Tuesday morning, Sharp will sign copies of the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup DVDs in Chicago, says Adam L. Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times.

While this doesn't change Chicago's perilous salary cap situation, especially with last week's Niklas Hjalmarsson contract matching, the fact that Sharp is still representing the Hawks in the Chicago community can't be a bad sign that the Cup champs may opt to keep him for next season.

Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions/Rumors

Sopel appearing at the *** parade did not stop him from getting traded. I think these appearances have been agreed upon some time in advance and bear no significance if a player is staying or going. Not saying Sharp is going anywhere, just that maybe it's reading too much into these appearances.

Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions/Rumors

All this "Sharp trade" talk comes from Jesse Rogers.

He said something to Waddle and Silvy and they asked Sharp if Bowman had ever mentioned anything to him. Of course he hadn't but when they pressed that Rogers had told them he had a good reply.

He sad something like, "I wish I knew who his (Rogers) inside sources were because he'll either look like a genius..............or something else."

He left it at that.

This may belong in the WTF thread.

I don't make the news, I just post the idiocy...

Latest update

UPDATE: Patrick Sharp isn't going anywhere says GM Stan Bowman, via the Twitter feed of Adam L. Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times.

This means the Hawks would have to do some finagling to stay far enough under the cap to re-sign goaltender Antti Niemi. That, or they could lose the cup-winning netminder to another team. The next few weeks, or days, could get interesting for the champs.

Did Reasoner even visit the Chicago area yet?

Anyone have any details on Taffe?

Check the link to his hockeyDB page. Do people even look at a thread before posting?
