Hun, why are you so mean spirited? Is it Little Jack you don't like or just me?
If you've read any of the other threads where Skille is mentioned you'd know the answer. Skille has replaced Barker as Maiden's whipping boy.

Hawks qualify Ladd.

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=325898

With Monday's deadline approaching for NHL teams to extend qualifying offers to restricted free agents, the Chicago Blackhawks extended a $1.65 million qualifying offer to winger Andrew Ladd.

Ladd, however, still has arbitration rights to go seek higher compensation.

He might just take that to stay. Unfortunately they don't have a lot of money to go around. So now is when you see which is more important. Playing on a team with a LEGIT chance of winning the Cup (repeating) or going for the money. Eventually some of these guys with their name on the Cup will go for the money IMO. Not sure how that works with a group this tight though.
A guy like Ladd may only get one chance for a big money contract.

He's won 2 Cups already so while winning the Cup would be great for him, locking up his financial future could become more important to him. Besides he might think the Cup just follows him where ever he goes.

I really like Ladd as a player but If I am him I would worry about signing a cheap one year deal for fear of being traded at the deadline. At least if he explores free agency he can kind of choose where he goes...

Couldn't decide where to put this:

Anyone know or think the newly departed Hawks will be invited to the Convention? This year is a little different after all.

I am no expert... I am sure RK could probably answer this one. But I doubt it... I don't think the teams they are with would let them anyways. Just a hunch.

Won't happen, they are no longer Chicago Blackhawks.

After retirement will be a different story.

Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions

Just saw this little bit of trade speculation come across Twitter via Jeff Marek of CBC Sports/HNIC:

don't be surprised if the NYI take Huet to make the floor.

Also seems to believe the Hawks would package a prospect with Huet in such a deal, based on a couple of later tweets. Discuss.

I'd take that deal. And I doubt NYI could ask for too much in way of a prospect. However there was talks that the Islanders have offered Kovalchuk a 10-year/$10m deal. That would sort their cap floor issues in one stroke.

There was also speculation they had major room last year and contemplated Huet. I'm sorry I would think if Kovalchuk wants to win that isn't the place he wants to go.

I'd also take a deal. Depending on the prospect. Part of me wants them to have to eat Huets contract in penalty for the dumb ass signing in the first place!

The Islanders have tons of highly touted prospects and within 2 years could be in the same position the Hawks were 2 summers ago. Add a superstar like Kovulchuk to the mix and they have the makings of a very good club. Plus add being in the NYC market and Kovie might be a good fit in NYC.

Why have Niklas Persson been taken off the free agent signing on the main page? Something I have missed?

Blackhawks have resigned Jassen Cullimore. I hope he stays in the AHL. If he makes it up to the big club we're screwed.

Via Bob McKenzie's twitter.

I am not working, but I can tell you TSN's Gord Miller reports San Jose has signed Niklas Hjalmarsson to a four-year, $14M offer sheet.

CHI has seven days to match. Back to vacation.
