Soooo... Colton Orr for 900,000?

Better get someone because teams are going to take huge liberties without Buff/Eager out there.

No one is scared of Burish... only other REAL fighter would be Seabrook, he knows how to throw em.

When Beach is up I want him on the ice, not in the box.
When the Wangs won the last cup they had shit, and this year when people did take liberties who fought? Not Eager and Buff. After the Toews hit other than Steeg it was crickets from our bench. And guess what, we still won it. There were ZERO fights in the playoffs by us, which is by far the most physical hockey they will ever play, I don't think much more needs to be said. **** Orr and his tainting of that epic last name.

NHL goons are going the way of the CD. Will be extinct very soon.
Sadly enough for today's society... CDs are still around and purchased. And I wouldn't mind paying a guy like Colton Orr 900,000 a year to be on the ice for 5-6 minutes a game as the Blackhawks police man. No one is going to make runs at skilled players unless they are stupid enough to face Orr in a fight.

I agree goons should be exterminated, but they aren't yet. You're still going to have heros like Matt Cooke or Steve Downie trying to injure people... especially if they have no one to answer too.

Yea but what would have happened if Toews/Hossa/Kane's season would be ended by a cheapshot? Similar to the Downie attempted "knee break" of Crosby? All of the regular season intangibles go on towards the playoffs.

You can't have "nobody" someone find me a team without an enforcer.

I am not saying I agree with the role... but the fact is, it's there and should be noted.

Really? Come on Stu your much smarter than this. The Hawks did not have one this year, the Penguins did not have one last year, and the Wings did not have on two years ago. 06-07 Ducks had Parros, he played.....5 games in the playoffs and in the regular season only had 101 PIMS. 05-06 Hurricanes had...no enforcer. Come on, you see a trend here? Every cup winner since the lockout hasn't wasted useless cap space on pieces of shit who can't do anything but hit another guy in the face while on skates, its dead to teams who want to win. I mean say all you want, but the enforcer is as dead as Michael Jackson. (Say what you want to soon, it's been a year and he raped little boys)

And really Stu, say Toews, Hossa, Kane are taken out by a Downie, what would an enforcer do for us, beat that guy up.....yea that would do a lot of good when trying to make up for the loss of talent. Talent wins cups, its a proven fact, enforcers are dead to winning teams IMO, and if the Hawks wasted ANY cap space on one I'd be furious, luckily I know they won't.

Re: Offseason Transactions

Paying 900k for a useless player like Orr would be a travesty. Talent always beats anything these so called "enforcers" bring to the game. If you are going to waste almost a million in capspace for someone who will play tops 5-6 mins a game and sometime maybe even 10 mins he better know how to play hockey and contribute other things than leaning and hugging a player in a boring "fight" and then sit for 5 minutes for that pointless effort.

Enforcers are a dying breed. With the salary cap every player should be able to play hockey and contribute in several aspects of the game and not just one thing.

Re: Offseason Transactions

We have plenty of players who will stand up for our star players, whether they won or lose a fight has no bearing. Brouwer, Burish, Bickell are 3 that come to mind. If Boynton makes the 5/6 theres another.

Re: Offseason Transactions

Burish cost 700K last year....I'd rather see the Hawks bring in Laroque for that coin to sit in the press box - rather than Burish. He may actually scare somebody, if the Hawks needed an enforcer.

With that said, I'd be happy with the combo of Bickell, Brouwer, Dowell, Seabrook, Boynton...if needed.

Hilarious!!!!!!!! That assbag cant play a lick.

I think it's great how fans undervalue Burish.

Alot like how they overvalue Skille and the "next Larry Robinson" Cam Barker.

Can we change the title of this thread to differ a little more distinctly from the one in the NHL thread? When you View New Posts they can get confusing.

Are you serious? The only people Laroque scares are his teammates, coaches, and fans of the team he plays on, just waiting for him to take a stupid penalty. The man is a waste! Burish brings so much more to the game. I cannot believe that people are still talking about the need for a goon. What year is this?

Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions

Granted it's Jesse Rogers

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/n ... id=5329208

With Monday's deadline approaching for NHL teams to extend qualifying offers to restricted free agents, the Chicago Blackhawks did make one to Stanley Cup winning goaltender Antti Niemi, a source said on Friday.

But the Hawks had not yet made an offer to winger Andrew Ladd, another source close to the situation said.

If restricted free agents don't receiver a qualifying offer by Monday, they become unrestricted free agents on July 1.

The Hawks, who continue to look for ways to free themselves from salary cap restraints, can trade the rights to Ladd by Monday.

Chicago, which won its first Stanley Cup since 1961 this season, traded Dustin Byfuglien to the Atlanta Thrashers in a multiplayer deal on Wednesday in another cost-cutting move.

Jordan Hendry and Niklas Hjalmarsson are the Blackhawks' other restricted free agents. A source said while Hendry didn't get a qualifying offer, the Blackhawks are in talks to re-sign him.

Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions

from someone on HFboards

In short, per Chicago talk radio.

With total possible bonuses Hawks sat about 4 mill over the cap. However at the time of the injuries Hawks chose to not claim LTIE """YET""" after bonuses are calculated the team will now file and claim the exemption for Hossa, Bolland and Campbell and possibly others.

This possibly came from Scotty as something the Wings almost had to do in an early cap year.

anyone else who can confirm? is this true? if so, it's brilliant.

Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions

So what does this mean?

Re: Hawks' Offseason Transactions

It means instead of doing it during the regular season they can do it now. Claiming the back money's. I believe.

That's why none of the Hawks were put on LTIR during the season. They were preparing for this.

If I understand it correctly. That's also why I said the total Cap numbers everyone had were skewed and that the NORMAL bonus's were figured in from the start.

The ONLY bonus that hurt the Hawks was the Con Smythe 1.3 mil.
