Not really too sure why people are so excited for this guy.

We needed a big physical stay at home D-man... instead we got a 6' injury prone guy who is going to play 12 minutes a game.

But whatever, I guess it's a lateral move above Hendry.

Ton tries to say "when healthy he's a 40 point per year guy"... the only year he was healthy was his rookie year where he played 80 games. His past 5 seasons he has been injury prone as all get out.

He's not Boynton or Cullimore, and I've heard good things about him from Ottawa fans.

Yea I guess I'll just need the eye test for this one because I've only seen Campoli play a few times and was never really paying attention to him.

He's not going to make any bone crushing hits out there, but Campoli is a solid player and he will help us. If people are expecting a d-man that is overly physical like Seabrook, sorry but you will be disappointed.

I'm not expecting 40 points a year from him, but he is capable of pitching in offensively. If healthy he can definitely hit around 30-40 points though. He blocks shots, isn't afraid to finish his checks, and is a fantastic skater. He is capable of playing 18-22 minutes a game, maybe he'll get around 15 min in Chicago but he can step up if needed or if someone is having a bad game. He'll fit in just fine, this is a guy that is a capable top-4 d-man but will be playing in a bottom pairing role, we have a lot of depth at D right now. All 6 of them are capable of top-4 minutes and we still have Cullimore, Exelby, and Hendry (hopefully he returns soon) -- all capable NHL d-men if needed.

I'm more worried about our forwards than our D at the moment, if Stan could have landed a guy like Marty Reasoner this team would be a legit contender IMO. Actually, regardless I still think they are a contender, but a 3rd line C would have solidified that thought.

Well, he had shoulder surgery in Jan of '08 which shut him down the rest of that season (36gms) and beginning of '09 (5gms). Other than that, missed 12gms (out of 218) since in the next 3 years total to groin (2gms), knee (8gms), and back (2gms). I'm not sure where that makes him injury prone.

And lateral...over Hendry? Really?

Hendry cannot play either PK or PP

Gets rocked/knocked on his ass at least once a game.

His TOI per year from this year going back - 10:41, 11:51, 10:06, 17:12 (07-08)

Campoli...can play both PK and PP

101 hits last year, 73 this year (not a bruiser at all, but much better physically than Hendry)

Avg .34ppg to Hendry's .10 ppg

His TOI per year from this year going back - 18:48,17:50,19:49/18:57(NYI/OTT),19:09

Hendry is a -2 on a team thats a +29

Campoli was a -3 on a team that was -57

But besides that, I guess it was a lateral move and only expect 12min a game from him.

Also...**** Bryan Murray and his comments as a GM. "We weren't going to offer him arbitration anyway...."

Maybe thats why you drove your team straight to shit. Signing Kovalev 2yr-10mil, Gonchar 3yr-16.5mil, Kuba extension 3yr-11.1mil...and decide to keep shitty 32 year old Philips at 3yrs - 9.25mil where they could have got more future pieces to build with.

Here's to you, Bryan Murray....the tool bag of the day.

Bryan Murray sucks. We'll be thanking him for this at the end of the year while his team is drafting #1 overall in a weak draft.

Both the Murrays are jack-asses. Its why LA will falter again in the playoffs too. If they had half a coach, they'd be scary.

Can't blame him for Gonchar, he was the points leader for defensemen coming out of the lock out.

He was 36 years old and coming off 2 seasons where he missed 57gms...then 20gms. He wanted multi-year deal and his own team couldnt get rid of him soon enough - and go out and sign 2 players Martin (5mil per) and Michalek (4mil per) and not look back at Gonchar and his demands.

He missed some time but he was still productive. Last year he put up 50 points in 62 games, the year prior 19 points in 25 games, and the year before that 65 in 78 games, and 67 in 82.

Pretty much Gonchar has produced at a 0.8 PPG clip since 2000. This year? He's producing at half of that, 0.4 PPG.

Of course Gonchar was getting old but who would have thought he would have tanked this badly? Even if his production dropped off slightly from his regular 65 point total, I wouldn't think he would produce only half of that.

I think when your own team not only doesnt try to keep you - but goes and signs a replacement ASAP for the same dollars, thats a hint something is up, or they know something.

But if you think a 3yr/16.5mil deal for a 36 year old is a good idea, more power to you.

It's a big reason why OTT and Murray sucks balls and they will for a long time.

Oh wow he played big minutes on NYI and Ottawa? NO WAY!

We'll see how it turns out... still don't think they addressed the real need on the defense.

Ok..well, its not "lateral" from Hendry

And Campoli fits the Hawks D style. Mobile, good outlet passer, jumps in the play...and also, as you put it - wow, he played on OTT and NYI - not much talent there, but he still put up .34ppg. May improve a bit with better talent.

I just find it funny that Stan said the team needed depth at center and a big bodied physical defenseman and he goes out and gets Frolik to play center where he is now on the wing and he goes and gets a 6 foot defenseman who averages just over 1 hit per game. Guess I was thinking Stan was looking for a Seabrook playstyle type player when he said physical.

Fun fact after digging up some hitting stats: Brent Seabrook is 2nd in the league for D-Men in hits with 178. Only trailing Luke Schenn at 198.

And there werent too many centers moved yesterday/or were available. So you can't trade for something thats not available - and if they didn't have the cap space or without moving a core piece.

Same with Dmen. I'd rather he find a player that will both fit the system and may be here for more than the next 20gms (as Scooter says he can see that of Campoli) than a slug who can't play with this team.

I didn't see where he said he wanting a big bodied Dman, I thought he said he wanted to add depth and someone that can eat up minutes.

Do we need another C? yep. Do we need a physical dman a la seabs? yep. Did we need an immediate replacement for Hendry? yep. Did we improve our roster by adding Campoli? yep.

You are not going to get anyone better, for as cheap, at either center or d without giving up a roster player.

Watching Scott on D right now is brutal Campoli get your ass here right now.

Agree. Scott was useless on D last night (all 4+ minutes of him), and the fight was just ridiculous since the guy barely grazed Soupy. I think Scott just needed to sharpen his "skills" since he hadn't fought in awhile....
