Too bad the Oilers wouldn't take Soupy's shit contract.

Why Trade Campbell? So he has a high cap, we are close to the cap because of Bonus Hits, dont lame that on Campbell. This team has shown that when Campbell is not dressed we have no puck movement, or Powerplay quarterback.

No, Soupy has 4 years left on it.

7.1 mil for a guy putting up nothing on offense.

Again stop looking at offensive numbers. Campbell has been our best D-man this year. If you are going to throw up number that count I am going to throw them back at you. Brent Seabrook has 53 games played, 3 goals 27 assists for 30 points, and is a -5. Duncan Keith has 53 games played, 4 goals 25 assists for 29 points, and is a -2

Soupy has played in 13 less games and has 2 goals and 16 assists for 18 points. The thing that sticks out to me though is that Soupy is a +22, so he is doing something defensively. He has also got Hammer back into the positive catgory after a very bad start for his season.

So yeah, Cmpbell has a shittycontract, but his importance on this team shows.

here is my response sickboy

Assets:
Kane
Toews
Hossa
Keith
Sharp

Leave those 5 alone, and build around them.

with bonuses coming off the books, and if they do not re sign seabrook, and can find a suitor for campbell we can build a pretty damn good team.

Well, yeah, Sharp is an asset now, but why would Stan be flipping a 23 year old top pairing defenseman instead and building around Sharp, who is 29 and whose value hasn't been higher if going into rebuilding mode?

I guess I wasn't clear enough in my facetiousness in flipping Sharp. Unless Seabrook's agent is pushing on the high side for 6-7, I think ya keep him.

Edit- I forgot to mention that yes, you're right about those bonuses coming off will be big as well as an expected increase in the cap for next season. The depth should not be as barren as it is this year.

I really ouldn't mind moving seabs to get a #2 D-man. Also coul look into the possibility of getting a phsical guy to go with Campbell, and let Hammer play wth Leddy, or te New Physcal guy with Leddy

Seabrook leaves and there will officially be ZERO physical presence on the Hawks' blueline.

No thank you.

5 is a lot of pieces though -and as mentioned, you have to add Campbell in that group of 5 making it a group of 6 - if only for the fact that you can't trade the guy with his contract.

However, that being said -I would really rather have Seabrook than not.

Edit: I don't know -but here is a guy that is in the prime of his career, no real injury problems and a more effective player both physically and offensively than the joker they had to keep from San Jose... Sure I'm all for potential, but 7 actually has potential that has been realized. Sure I was for trading the guy earlier in the season, but -well ... I don't know - I think I was off base in that, it makes sense moneywise- but then again so did signing employees up for the jelly of the month club instead of bonuses in Christmas vacation.

Edit II: And boy do I hate bullshit hockey blogs...

Brian Campbell has been the most consistent player on the Hawks this entire season. His salary was just the result of the free agent market. I see no reason to get rid of the guy if he keeps producing.

Bowman has been making trips around the media today stating Seabrook will not be moving and negotiations have moved along quite well.

His track record is good, but not perfect when he makes such declarations.

Couple quick things. I'm getting tired so I'm not going to specifically quote everything I'm referring to.

1. Campbell's contract is bad, yes, but he's been our best d-man hands down. Great plus player and without him we have ZERO breakout versatility.

2. Seabrook is completely replaceable. Sure, he is the physical defenseman of the bunch but you can get anyone you want in FA for that. The hawks are in no position to let a guy with high trade value walk only to lose him for nothing.

look at it this way. do you think the hawks are cup contenders this year? just asking what you think.

here is why: campbell has been playing great, his trade value now is will be at its best NOW not in the offseason, so you move him and his 7 mil, you lose the cup bonuses after the season, you can replace seabrook or extend him....and you will have plenty of cap room to play with in the offseason.

what i dont get with alot of fans is the seabrook love. great he plays physical, and is "grindy" but he is well over valued by hawks fans.

Unless something changes, no, I don't think they have a chance in hell at repeating.

True this is probably the hawks best opportunity to get rid of the Campbell contract but I still just don't see any GM taking that cap number.

I really wish Soupy was making $4.5MM because I really like his game....

The bold is the part that I don't think is true. I don't think that you can get anyone in free agency for that -as the guy is also doing ok offensively (as defensemen go).

However I do definitely agree that the guy's trade value is way up there. However the key difference is that he is an RFA not a UFA which means that the ball is really in the Hawks' court as far as Seabrook's retention is concerned.
