If we bring him in then we have to hear you ***** we didn't get anyone else. You do know there is a salary cap right?

Hawks gonna be about 8 mil under the cap but they lose Brunnette (2 mil), Mayers (550K), Oduya (3.5 mil), and Emery (550K).

I would think that they'd want Mayers, Emery, and Oduya back. Obviously, there is no room for Suter and his 7 mil or so contract that it would take to sign him. Besides, do they need him? When Keith comes back, if Toews is close to 100%, and Crawford is average then they are a cup condtender right now. Plus, the Hawks have so much talent coming from within the system that making a long-term, Soupy-sized contract is not needed.

Doubt emery comes back, but the main point of your post is correct...suter doesnt fit financially jere unless we move more salary, but then it would weaken our team more

I agree with your position, but if they went out and got Suter I don't think there would be a need for Oduya anymore. The other thing is that the new CBA could severely restrict teams abilities to stash contracts in the AHL, drop the cap some more, etc. The bottomline is we don't know what the Blackhawks will be looking at as their financial constraints for next season.

True, if they got Suter they would definitely not neet Oduya. But the problem is that they simply don't have the cap space unless they make a trade (Hammer?). Think anyone would take Frolik? I thought that was a horrible contract when it came out and it hasn't gotten any better.

tbo- why do you think Emery wouldn't come back? Wants to be a starter? Too much money? Someone in the minors?

The only way that it works out is if the CBA still allows contracts not in the NHL to count towards the cap (then enjoy lovely, scenic Rockford, IL next year Frolik), the cap staying about the same, and probably trading Hammer or Seabrooks. Not sure how much better that makes this team. The top 3 defenseman would certainly be a lot better than what we have now, but not sure if that makes the 3 pairings better overall.
