So which is it? The people doing the hiring that feel that way, or you? Before, it was "clearly displayed outside of the clothing" and now it's just "taboo areas". What exactly is a taboo area? A tattoo on the hand or neck is taboo, according to who? I have seen plenty of men and women, working in plenty of normal jobs, that have arm, hand, leg, ankle, and neck tattoos. Have a couple family members that are pretty well ranked police officers, with several visible tattoos on their arms and hands. A few that are firemen as well. I work with several people that have visible arm and hand tattoos in the IT field. I have several relatives that work in the medical field that have tattoos "CLEARLY displayed outside of the clothing". Ankles, legs, arms, hands, neck, to name a few.
How do you know the acceptance HASN'T grown? Because I'd say it most definitely has grown. For ****'s sake, you said yourself that your company has no problem hiring people with piercings or tattoos, so where are you getting this stigma from? Maybe it hasn't grown with you, but that's just one person. My experience with those around me tells me exactly the opposite. Tattoos are not a big deal. At all.
Again, can you get it through your head that a certain percentage (whatever that percentage is) doesn't mean everyone or that there are no exceptions? Is everything all or nothing with you?
