Noticing the activity on this message board I have decided to invite myself in the discussions as I see fit.
I am and avid sports fan and have been a die-hard Cubs fan for over thirty five years.
I do not receive information about the Cubs via alien spacecraft or from dinner dates at The Mighty Epstein's mansion.
I will keep it real.

It sure is nice to see that The Mighty Epstein has mentioned an entire array of goals from wanting to win the World Series in 2012 to rebuilding the team from the ground up all in the same season.
It is very comforting to know that he can do it all.
He has actually done nothing productive other than make mostly senseless transactions.
The list is as follows...
Michael Blowden
Germhole Contraception
Terd Wood
Volva
Joe RatherNot
The Soler Flare
Paul Manhole'm
Justin Germed-manhole
David Ineedjewiced
Iam Beefstewshart
And that one top prospect that has an arm blown out with a history of arm soreness that we are excited about before the trade deadline.
Let's also not forget the Cub's Way, book of basics, to lead these players to stardom.
I'd say we are on the right path.

It's nice to see we have a big die hard Cubs fan here. I like you already! Can you please tell me(sorry, I'm not much of a baseball guy) when Epstein said he wanted to win the World Series in 2012?

I'm curious, how would you run the team? You seem to know a lot about this team. I'd love to hear your input.

I have a problem with the current regime not doing BOTH, building a strong farm system AND placing a competitive ML team on the field when there's ample resources to do so.

We currently have the worst starting pitching staff in the majors and this team has grown to the point of unwatchable.
Far from flattering being the third highest revenue team in baseball and charging some of the highest ticket prices.
I don't have a problem with the said players, other than Manhole'm isn't here anymore, not part of the rebuilding process, Terd Wood sucks, Vizcaino's arm is blown up and hasn't proven much at the ML level, Soler has done nothing.

There was excitement about Germhole Contraception when he was signed. Now he's a millionaire that will possibly never make it to Triple A ball.

You don't like Contraception, huh? Do you think we should get rid of the draft as well? Just asking. All those guys will possibly never make it to Triple A...

Epstein announced, again, that the goal of the 2012 Cubs "is to win the World Series."

Interesting, it appears the main Cub forum page doesn't register the last post in this thread.

Hey guys! I'm a diehard sports fan but brand new Cubs fan. I live in Alberta Canada but my favorite sports team is the Toronto Raptors, followed by Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Bills. My 4th team for some time has been the Blue Jays just by geographical closeness. But they've never really done anything for me. I don't watch regular season games, I don't get that attached to their players, the AL East is way too disheartening it just seems like a team that's supposed to be the one I cheered for. I realized recently I might become a bigger fan of the sport of baseball if I had a team I liked more

So I'm changing it! I am now a fan of the CUBS. Why the Cubs, especially at this point in time? I realized when I was searching for my NFL team years ago how misery is appealing. I tried a year with the Ravens and a year with the Vikings, both when they were good, neither took! Eventually when I tried the Bills, it stuck like glue. I realized I have to root for sports teams with a history of getting kicked in the nuts and who are the consummate underdog/kicked puppy. It is in my nature. I hope the Cubs can stick like the Bills did

So Cubs fan since 2012, Favorite current Cubs player: Anthony Rizzo, Favorite All-Time Cubs player: Sammy Sosa, Favorite Cubs moment: Don't deserve to answer this, but when they went up 3-1 in 03 NLCS

Welcome! :D I'd try to say you chose wisely, but I'd probably be lying. Have to have a bit of irrationality to be a Cubs fan

Hi everyone,

I am a big sports fan from New Zealand, and have been a Cubs fan since about '03 - '04. My first sport is what we call football (what you would call soccer) and I have played for 20+ years. Glasgow Rangers FC are my number one team - I come from a Scottish family who have supported them since the late 1800s.

I follow the English and Scottish football leagues first, but I am also a big fan of Cricket (Baseball's cousin!), Australian Rules Football and of course, Baseball.
I have followed the MLB since '98 when I was about 14, though I never adopted a team until I chose the Cubbies in '03ish. Why did I choose them? Well, it took years for me to choose a team to follow and many things came into account. Originally I half-followed Texas but mainly only due to their name - Rangers being my soccer team. However I found myself developing a soft-spot for the Cubs, partly due to their misfortune over the last century (!) and partly due to their colours - Royal blue being the colour of my two favourite soccer teams, Rangers and Chelsea. Also I was a fan of Sosa back then and really wanted him to beat McGwire all those years!

Though I often do like to back the underdogs in many sports, that's not really the reason I chose the Cubs. After all, my soccer team Rangers hold the world record for the most national titles of any club anywhere with 54. The passion and faith Cubs fans seem to have is fantastic, and I can relate to the tough times now as Rangers FC have just been through some terrible times and now find themselves bankrupt and demoted to the lowest division in Scottish football for going into administration.

One thing I love about baseball is the tradition and status as a conservative sport. I don't necessarily mean that in a political way, I just love the old fashioned traditions around the game and it's status as your national sport. I am not a fan of our national sport, Rugby, at all however I have played Cricket for many years and would consider it a traditional sport like Baseball. In fact, some around these parts call Baseball "American Cricket" :)

Favourite current Cubs player : Soriano
Favourite past player : Sosa
Favourite moment : June '98 Sosa 20 HR, 42 RBI, .842 SP (this happened when I was first getting into baseball and was just starting to understand all the stats!)

Thanks everyone and I hope to learn a lot more from you all!

Chur bro! (Kiwi slang)

P.S. Please excuse my correct spelling of some words in there like "favourite".... :p

As long as it's not the Yankees or Cardinals I couldn't care. But Rangers or Tigers would be pretty cool.

True my bad, to the playoff thread!

Totally agree though, Rangers or Tigers would be ok with me, as long as it's not the Yankees or Cards.
