The cunting over Kyle Fuller is ridiculous.

He had one pro bowl ability... The ability to jump a route for a takeaway when the pass rush was good.

Everything else about him was just a slightly above average corner, and not nearly worth the price tag.

On Hicks, if he was seriously bitching over the defensive culling, they may have told him to seek a trade if he wants, only to find out no one wants him at his price.

May have been done to humble him...
He was also by far one of the best hard hitting and tackling CB's in the entire league. His worst thing was his coverage skills weren't the best.

Half his highlight tackles were flagged for penalties/review last year.

He had one career season. He's a 2nd tier coverage guy getting paid like a shutdown corner. Was time for him to go, no chance he worth 20 million.

And to be clear, I am not saying Pace has not mismanaged this. He has.

IMO, the bad Quinn signing and the Trevathan extension had more to due with having a defense that was too expensive for their age and production resulting in the Fuller cut than the signing of Dalton.

And all the trade-ups he has done over the years mean that they do not have as many younger, cheaper guys to step up and fill roles when they move on, or should move on, from aging vets - like Trevathan.

Never said he was worth $20 mil, all i said was he was by far one of the hardest hitting and best tackling CB's in the league and he is.

Good GM: cuts Hicks, probably Graham too. Extends fuller to lower the cap hit, 4 year extension. Then next year trades him if he has to.

Pace: likes to keep old players, loses 29 year old all pro cb for nothing.

good GM puts a gun to Fuller's head and forces him to do it? Fuller rejected all attempts to restructure his contract.

And he might have gotten the money he was looking for where he a linebacker and not a cornerback. unfortunately for him and you, GMs are looking for a different kind of skill set from their cornerbacks instead of linebacker tendencies.

He looks to layout players when wrs are vulnerable. Not happening in today's nfl.

12.5 mil to me is a bit excessive. We probably didnt have any trade offers for that price. And now Golloday is off the board, the staff probabky doesn't see the point in cutting Hicks if we don't have too or cant sign a better player.

Also, its possible Hicks learned there wasn't much of a market for him when being told he could seek trade offers. May have pushed him to take a pay cut and either extend or treat this year like his last chance at a multi year contract.

you're probabky right

I don't understand what you and others don't get about why we had to get rid of at least one of our highly paid defenders. Is it that you're just angry cause it was Fuller or what cause we simply had to create cap space? I don't wanna see him go either but i get why it was done.

Hicks was the better option to cut. Maybe it wouldn’t have saved as much but Hicks and another player...hem....Graham, gets the job done and they still have Fuller on the roster.

Nope. You cut both and try to sign Suh for Hicks money.

I've said it before and I'll say it again..... this defense sucks without Hicks. Man is the heart and soul of this team.

Yep. In 2018.

They weren’t very good last season with Hicks. The second half of the season was bad.

Everyone seems to forget that the biggest jump in production for any NFL player happens from year 1 to 2 .... so expect JJ to be the #1 stud CB next year.... I also fully expect Pace to get another solid CB in FA and draft one and add him to the Trufant Vildor mix and let the best player start opposite JJ .... Shelley will start in the slot

So pay Trufant, pay for another FA, pay the Draft pick to replace Fuller and his contract.

Seems like Pace will spending more to replace Fuller than to just keeping Fuller.

I agree that JJ could be a very good player for a while for the Bears. The issue with JJ and why he was available to them last year with their later 2nd round pick was his injury history. If he can stay healthy, then absolutely he has talent. But, can he stay healthy for 16/17 games?

I agree but you said that the defense would be bad if Hicks was gone. I pointed out the fact they were bad with Hicks.

Less the cb is a shutdown corner which Fuller is not, you always take a DT. Suh > Hicks > 2nd tier coverage cb
