If you really want to know, he did let me know that he was leaving this forum a while back for various reasons. No idea if he is still posting elsewhere, I believe he was at another forum but it isn't one I contribute to.

My self imposed spending boycott of the NHL because of the lockout is over. My son is getting us tickets for an upcoming game this month. Not sure which one yet as it depends on what's available thru his work. I know, I know....a real wimpy boycott. But how the hell was I to know they'd be going 19-0-3?

Haha that's tough man. I had a spending boycott of the NHL during the lockout, but when it was over, I was powerless. I wanted to get back to the game.

This isn't the first time in this country that a bunch of rich assholes made things awful for us common folk. And instead of continuing to deny myself one of my favorite things in the world, I decided to get right back to it. No matter where you spend your hard-earned money, it's probably going to end up in the hands of some obscenely wealthy person who doesn't need the money. So why not, at least, make sure you're spending your cash on something you enjoy?

I'm not faulting anyone who's still boycotting the game. I'm just saying I couldn't do it.

People don't leave because they can't take it...they leave because they don't want to take it. People come here (to the Blackhawks forum) to talk hockey and it gets real old when they can't have a quality conversation because of a select few. How many times does someone give their hockey opinion around here just to be berated with crap or dumb comments that have nothing to do with hockey? Those comments are why people have left. Those original comments lead to more dumb comments, which gets tiring and old all around. Attack someones opinion, disagree with them...hell, that is what this forum is supposed to be for but do it in a way that an adult would...not some 10 year old child. Pretty plain and simple, just is what it is.

In terms of EIB, my understanding from him is he left because he got tired of having his hockey opinions turn into lame comments that had nothing to do with hockey. As long as someone gives a hockey opinion and puts some actual thought behind it, they shouldn't be subjected to some of the crap that goes around here.

I think Dmelt summed it up pretty nicely with post #46 there. Hell, go to the Hawks @ Ducks IGT for a prime example of what I am talking about.

its only a couple of people who I pick on all the time. again if it bothers you so much than ignore it. EIBs posts where called out for major major meatballism.

I think it is pretty obvious why it can get old to others and I know of 2 members from this forum who left because of it and 2 who are around but don't post much anymore because of the constant non-hockey bullshit. Who cares if it was "major major meatballism" he had some valid posts, showed thought behind them, and stayed to hockey. He was a fan of the Blackhawks, talking about the Blackhawks, in a Blackhawks forum. It should have been the posts that were "attacked", in a manner proper for adults, instead it was attacked in a way that didn't have to do with hockey. I mean, the fact that you say to a few you "pick on people all the time"...common, stick to the hockey and cut the BS around here - didn't think that was the purpose of this forum.

As I said - the Hawks at Ducks IGT is a perfect example. There was absolutely no need in that thread for there to be anything but hockey talk. Instead, a certain poster decided to post a lame comment - followed by several other lame comments that had nothing to do with the post itself, the game, or hockey.

As distasteful as the term "meatball" is to me...I always felt it was someone berating a poster for
having "blinders" on....to me, I don't see anything wrong in it. If someone posts something he considers
to be his stance on a subject, be willing to except the bad and the good responses. You know its like the
old saying, opinions are like assholes...everyone's got one. There are goofs on this site that are most
defintely trolls, not here in the Hawk forum (although the Capt is borderline :)) but in the other sports.
They say annoying shit just to get a rise out of other people or dump on other people for stating an
opinion. I don't see that in here.

Im fairly certain that I'm the elder statesman in here and I realize that the base of this Forum are younger
Hawk fans. I find that to be refreshing. I have no idea how old you are Hawkwriter, but your writing style
indicates you are older than most on this board. Im guessing its not the criticism that upsets you, its how
its done. You might want to take into consideration that this is predominately a younger group, it just might
lead to a few less wars of words.

I'm in my mid 20's. You are correct, I don't care if a person engages in a hockey conversation and disagrees. That is what a great conversation is about and other people can jump in and give their opinion. Pretty much the definition of what a sports forum should be. There is nothing wrong with that. What I don't enjoy (also think it ruins the purpose of this site and I know of several others who agree) when people "disagree" by making it not about the hockey conversation at all or can't stick to the hockey conversation for whatever petty personal reasons they have.

Example...after games I usually do a quick writeup of what I thought about the game, who played well, who played bad, etc. That should be great right? Doesn't matter if you agree with my opinion or not, it should hopefully get some conversation going...instead lame comments come after it instead of sticking to the hockey. That is when this site gets old.

When I come to the Blackhawks forum, it is to talk about the Blackhawks. Not to sort through the bullshit and respond to it. Unfortunately that happens way too often. Keep that shit to the bar or chat, not the Blackhawks forum. Pretty sure it is called "Blackhawks" forum for a reason.

In terms of the "criticism" or what I refer to as the bullshit, it comes from those who are around my age or older on this website, so I don't know if it is necessarily an age thing.

So "attacking" is zzzzss? I really hope you don't think that.

Its a fucking messageboard! There is not one messageboard that I know of where users never ever ever go off topic. If there is one please point it out. I mean grow a pair please.

I think your post here is indicative of what I have been talking about. Not really an adult response or one that should come from a mod who is supposed to promote Blackhawks conversation. Plenty of other boards stick to the topic much better than this one and you can have quality conversations there about hockey. That is why people come to the Blackhawks forum...or so I thought.

^^^ Key word being "sports conversation", not the extracurricular bs.

I thoroughly enjoy it when there is a quality disagreement and it sticks to hockey. Always fun to "debate", especially when it involves a winning team like the Blackhawks.
