I do not think Eraserhead was intended as horror, but I had serious problems watching that movie in the dark.

(That crying)

And Se7en was the last movie to genuinely scare me. When "Sloth" pops up....I jumped twenty feet in the air.

Genres often blur and have elements of each other. Is Alien sci-fi or horror? Is Blade Runner sic-fi or Noir or Neo-Noir.

I'd argue the ending of Freaks is pretty horrific. Freaks director, Tod Browning directed Dracula (1931), and is known for his body of horror films.
