Ok, some things, 1) signing with Columbus late screams out that basically no one was interested in the guy. I doubt there is anyone in the league that selects Columbus ahead of teams like Chicago (which includes Detroit, etc...); in this case it would be about weighing money and working conditions in the NHL compared to the KHL.
2) I imagine being up there in age and having had a serious knee injury last season had something to do with it (the Hawks lack of interest).
3) Quenneville went with his guy for the aged forward slot. Which is ok, however if the budget had allowed for squeezing in another guy -imo it should have been done, but then again I also get the concept, that you wait to see how things pan out and there wasn't any urgency at the time, if the calculation was (and I imagine it had to have been), that if needed an acquisition could be made later on in the season.
Ok, I get why Prospal isn't here - my only point is that it would have been a solid move.
