I believe that only works on a two way deal. If the player is on a one way deal the salary is the same but the team still has to pay it. If we send down olesz plus I think Huet is still under contract that's 8 mil out of Rockies money for two guys not on the roster.

Alright, that makes more sense, thanks.

I'm all for Smith coming up because he's my favorite player, but I agree that there's no room. He would has versatility to be in the top 6 because he can score, but could also be a bottom 6 player because he's very gritty and would add some life to that 4th line.

I was kind of hoping that the fourth line would be Smith-Mayers-Stalberg/Carcillo but there's no room for him and now Carcillo and Stalberg are both up. It doesn't make sense to have Olesz down while he's making all that money.

Could we have? Was Prospal interested in Chicago? Do you realize how many free agents Chicago probably talked to that just didn't work out?

Ok, some things, 1) signing with Columbus late screams out that basically no one was interested in the guy. I doubt there is anyone in the league that selects Columbus ahead of teams like Chicago (which includes Detroit, etc...); in this case it would be about weighing money and working conditions in the NHL compared to the KHL.

2) I imagine being up there in age and having had a serious knee injury last season had something to do with it (the Hawks lack of interest).

3) Quenneville went with his guy for the aged forward slot. Which is ok, however if the budget had allowed for squeezing in another guy -imo it should have been done, but then again I also get the concept, that you wait to see how things pan out and there wasn't any urgency at the time, if the calculation was (and I imagine it had to have been), that if needed an acquisition could be made later on in the season.

Ok, I get why Prospal isn't here - my only point is that it would have been a solid move.

I think the knee was a big reason of why he may not of came to Chicago. The knee is a big reason he his a winger now and not much of a centerman. Would he have helped this team? Probably, but with his injuries the past couple years, I think the Hawks organization made the right choice.

This is where we differ, Ice, in that to paraphrase Gordon Gecko - "... more or less, depth is good." The guy was a relatively cheap option as a top 6 winger - ok, if the guy blows out his knee in the next game- obviously I would be wrong.

However too, this isn't much different from what I was actually posting in the offseason -although then, I wasn't anticipating Kane playing centre.

haha, you play the devil's advocate well.

I hear ya and agree for the most part. My point is that there are a lot of unknowns and none of us really have any idea what management/coaching are thinking of a player.

Decades of practice -don't ask... :D not everyone dodges the discussions here (and I wish some guys would maybe see the discussions as part of being into it as fans as well, instead of like some personal challenge... and of course the obvious part too, that it is ok to have differing opinions, but it makes it that much more interesting for the rest of the board's readers.

I agree with you on that 100%

^^^ Completely agree on the discussion part.

If someone disagrees in a respectable way and brings something to the table in terms of stats, valid opinion, etc - then it is always a good discussion.

I disagreed with someone earlier about John Scott until we were blue in the face - I wouldn't have it any other way.

If you are going to say "John Scott is a fucking bum" atleast back it up with why, and then defend your opinion if someone calls you out on it.

If everyone agreed on these boards, it would be boring as hell.

I think it was balsy to send down O'le it definitely sends a msg to the rest of the squad...either shit or GTFO Dodge! What surprised me a bit was that no one claimed O'le off waivers because he did have to clear am I right? Maybe it was his paycheck?

We can officially put to rest that this team is better than the Cup winning team.

Cup winning team would wipe the floor with this one.

Basing a season off of 2 games, typical Cawks.

Actually, the argument could be made that this team is better than the cup team (not that anyone even said that before)

The one thing that this team has that that team didn't is cap space. The Hawks have space to add or resign or sign anyone they want. It's a great power to have. Sure Ladd, Buff, Soupy, Versteeg, and Brouwer are missed, but this is a good hockey team.

There are things that have to be improved on, but the Hawks are a good team. Don't base your thoughts on the team on two lousy games on the road with little rest.

This team isn't better than that Cup team, not even close really. That was one of the deepest teams that you will ever see in the Cap era. Saying that this team isn't as good as that Cup team doesn't mean that this current team is bad though, not one bit.

My comment was simply, who said that this team is better than the Cup team, because they would be pretty damn wrong and I haven't seen anyone say it or make an argument...until now I suppose.

Maybe he was referring to when I said we were on pace for more points (117 vs. 112), IDK.

I guess what I was saying was that this team is in a better position compared to that year. This team has years of success to come.
