Every fan-base has fans that get flamed for giving up hope. Cubs fans should pretty much give up because it is a culture that embraces/accepts losing. I admit I gave up on them a long time ago.

If any fan-base should be given a pass for giving up it's Cubs fans. They should boycott that team.

Thing about Cubs' fans (generally) is that they used to be ridiculously optimistic for no apparent reason. They have finally given up that blissful ignorance.
