I've heard that it can be a pretty smooth path for a female to get into a STEM program?

That was true for a while, but getting less so. I think it was 3 years ago that incoming females declaring science majors surpassed males. That was nationally, so probably varies from school to school. But yeah, there was a while where labs were pretty desperate to get a female presence in there.

I think that is less true in other STEM fields. I think a lot of them are still actively recruiting females.

If you're a woman going into the STEM field there is all sorts of "free money" sitting out there. My fiance's daughter is really into STEM(coding) and crossing out fingers that continues to be the case because lots of scholarship money out there for it.
Exactly, the encouragement for diversity in STEM fields far outweighs any shit they might get from their male peers.

XC and Track.

Had some small school basketball offers but passed them up.
What events in track? Times?

Not much for me. My kids cost a ton even with the breaks they got for being athletes.

1500. Didn't really like track though. Just did it to stay in shape for XC. Best 1500 in track was in the 4:25 to 4:30 range. 4:28.6 keeps popping into my head but I can't say for sure. Something around there.
