Bears in 1st half had 2 chances for FGs under 50 and Lovie didnt go for them lol. moron

The man must have been doing something right. Had home field throughout the playoffs, and this despite as people said a bad offensive line. Actually had home field throughout a couple of Lovie years. I think one year the last 2 games didn't even matter, already clinched it. Had some really great years. I hope we can get to that level again at some point, maybe this year, who knows.

Didn't Robbie Gould just make a 58 yard field goal against the Bengals? Lol as soon as Lovie was gone, Robbie Gould makes one that's almost 60 yards. I don't why Lovie never trusted Gould with the 50+ yard kicks.

Because attempting a field goal at the max that a kicker can possibly make is not always the right calculated decision in the game at that given time. There are many more variables than that. I really don't remember Lovie at all being ultra conservative with this.

You know, outside of this message board, Lovie Smith is a very highly regarded and respected man. You guys are knocking him for things that are ridiculously wrong. I just don't get it. The guys is extremely successful.

Trestman only asked him to do it because it was the end of the half. No coach generally asks a kicker to kick a 58 yard fg.

After the horrorshow that was the game in New York...the fact we would walk away with a winning record that season would astound me. Making it to the NFCCG was just the pinnacle of the strangest season I've ever seen play out for this team.

Week One: Only get to 1-0 because of Calvin Johnson's TD catch that really wasn't.

Week Three: Cutler's only win against the Packers and it comes thanks to Green Bay setting a franchise record for penalties in a game and Devin Hester remembering where the endzone is on a punt return again.

Week Five: After freshly swiping away Peppers...the Carolina defense is so bad that Matt Forte wins the game by himself.

Week Nine: Fresh off a bye week...the Bears play the winless Bills in a home game that really wasn't. Bears win by three points.

Week Eleven: Who the hell is Tyler Thigpen?

Week Thirteen: Who the hell is Drew Stanton?

Week Fifteen: Who the hell is Joe Webb?

Then there was the Saints collapsing against the worst playoff team in league history to set us up with a cupcake first round. Of course Karma would bite us in the ass come that game, but it was a strange hand we were dealt that year.

NFC has come a long way quickly...two years after getting a division crown and first round bye at 11-5, we would not even make the playoffs at 10-6.

The defense kept the team in games and Gould was accurate enough to put up some points when the offense generally was inept. Also, Forte was pretty amazing that year if I recall correctly with it being I believe Martz first year. It also didn't hurt that they had the easier route to the NFCC game.

Lovie was a very competent coach with a high floor based on his defensive prowess but a low ceiling because of his limitations as a one dimensional thinker. He was a guy that could put up wins during the regular season based on defense and a running game, but could never bring home a Super Bowl title.

I'm sure a struggling franchise will bring him in to build some stability, but I don't see much opportunity for him beyond that. Lovie would have to luck into a situation like Tony Dungy (HOF quarterback and offense already in place) because he's never going to build a complete team on his own.

He'll always be a good but not great HC. No disrespect meant by that. Most coaches don't ever reach that next plateau of championships.

Forte had a nice rebound after in 2010 after being hobbled in 2009, but 2011 was Forte's best year of his career by far which was eventually cut short.

Is it crazy to suggest how awesome of a combo it could have been with Trestman as head, running the O, and Lovie running the D. I mean, that's where we all know Lovie should be now, isn't it.
