A gypsy showed me this in her chrystal ball.
THE FUTURE AFTER KOBE RETIRES
Just one thing I'll say regarding the whole Kobe-Deng issue from years back.
Wasn't the issue with Kobe in that he didn't want Deng included in such a trade? I remember somewhere that Kobe wanted to play WITH Deng and thus he wouldn't accept a deal in which he was included. I think at that point Deng was still in fans' doghouse due to his injuries so they would've been fine trading him for Kobe. We all know how Gordon and Hinrich are received by the fan base...
I'm guessing the trade was discussed after 2006? That was Deng's best season and he had played all 82 games that season. He had been injured the 2 seasons previous, but yeah I guess he wasn't as hated until the season after up until the 2010 season.Actually, Magic went on television and stated that if Deng wasn't included in the deal...there would be no deal. Deng was in no doghouse because he was not injured during that time. He was a big favorite because that was his breakout season.
I think what is unreasonable is trying to please dumb fans who don't know what/who they want. Its obvious that the Bulls have tried, bad luck? Bad players? Both? I will have a problem with Reinsdorf when I see players available and the Bulls not pursuing.
I don't understand the issue with Reinsdorf liking baseball more. So what? He is 75 years old and baseball was his favorite sport as a kid. He is from a different generation. I have pointed out in the past numerous owners who own multiple teams. I don't think they are affected in that way either. I think which sport he loves the most is totally irrelevent. When the lux tax rules were nonexistent, Reinsdorf spent millions over the cap for ONE PLAYER. Nobody mentions this...but he spent a lot of money and got players signed. I really think history exonerates him. But we will se what happens in the future.
You make a worthy argument, I just disagree.

That said, I'm sure the Lakers demanded that Deng be included in any deal involving Kobe. That wasn't really my point. What I was saying was that it was Kobe who was making all the fuss about not wanting Deng included in such a deal and that he wanted to be playing with Deng.
I can see some fans being reluctant to let go of Deng for Kobe, but I can't reasonably see sane people not wanting to trade Deng for Kobe with a gun to their head.
Idk...whenever I see trade rumors floating around I always try to see if there's anyway we could keep some of our (semi crappy) assets, but when push comes to shove, I'd give up those guys and be ok with it. I guess part of me wants to be Mitch Kupchak and just acquire players for virtually nothing.
Here's a tall glass of milk for you to wash down Dorf's nuts.
That's milk? I thought it was the result of another one of your slurping sessions with SP94 and Bulls97. Kind of sad that is your only purpose in life. While everyone else is talking about the subject matter and actually making a point or counterpoint...
You stand off to the side...watching your buddies...affectionately...while lubricating your lips. Have fun.
Back to the actual topic for a sec...
Did anyone else find it funny that the Magic lost Dwight to the Lakers...the same team that they lost Shaq to like 16 years ago? At least this time they got stuff in return...even if that return was pretty crappy.
Dude calm the heck down. Just sit down and freaking chill for a second.WHAT??? How can you see that? Its Luol Deng and Kobe Bryant! One guy is one of the top 10 players of all time, at that point, in the prime of his career, the other guy is....Luol Deng! That is absolutely crazy. The Bulls had no problem offering Deng, rightfully so.
Kobe didn't want to come to Chicago to play with a decimated team, and he was closer to Deng than any other player. Notice Kobe wanted to play with Deng...and not Ben Gordon...just saying.
It was 2007 by the way. And when I see rumors floating around...I don't give a damn about crappy assets. But that's just me.

Now...I said I could see some fans being reluctant to let Deng go for Kobe, BUT I never said that the Bulls shouldn't have offered Deng for Kobe or that fans should have been upset at the idea of that trade. I also said that thinking that the trade happened after the 2006 season, Deng's best as a pro. 2007 he had another injury plagued year and missed like 20 games or something. At that point he had been injured in 3 out of 4 seasons and with that being the case, I don't see fans being as bothered.
Now here's why I thought Bulls fans could possibly have wanted Deng to not be included in a deal for Kobe if possible (I will reiterate, I believe the majority would have been fine letting Deng go in a trade, they just might not have preferred it). First off, Kobe wanted to play with Deng...if Kobe wants to play with someone, I'd say that player would fit well with Kobe. Secondly, what good would it do us (thinking purely short term) if we had Kobe and no one else? Kobe was scoring like 37 a game but had no one as a supporting cast. Result? No better than we were record wise. Now I know having Kobe and no one else is still fine because you can add later, but having Kobe and Deng at least then you know you have two pieces that you could build around.
And again, if LA said "Deng must included in a deal for Kobe," I'd be most fans would say fine.
I think the point would be that Kobe is an actual superstar...something people in this town needed to watch since they were foaming at the mouth over guys like Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich.
You're just confusing me with the years is what happened. When you said 2007 I figured you meant after the 2007-2008 season which is where those stats came from. My bad there.Kobe and lots of cap space is what Paxson wanted. Deng wasn't as important. And I don't know where you are getting these stats from. Luol Deng played 82 games in the 2006-2007 season. This all happened in the summer of 2007 with supposedly a trade being imminent in October of the same year.
I would agree which is why I said you pull the trigger regardless of how much you'd like to have something to put next to Kobe.

and i gotta live in LA DAMMIT! this blows, seriously. i was really looking forward to laker mediocrity in the next few years. i could see it on the horizon. but now the dream is over. dwight is penciled in for 1 year, but if they win a ring, you know damn well hes staying. also, LA is an awesome place to live, minus everything lakers.
SO CLOSE!
