Sure thing and Bynum? Those should never be used in the same sentence with all of his injury issues over the years.

im still shocked they traded Dwight for Afflalo and protected first round picks lol

i know their back was against the wall but damn....that might be worse than Gasol for Kwame......Memphis atleast got Marc Gasol out of that deal who turned out good

That is because of that whole luxury tax thing. Something that I believe 80% of the league avoided last year. It would be bad for business to let Paxson and Foreman run wild with a luxury tax (that is far more punitive than MLB's version) in place.

I know the constraints placed upon teams due to the LT, but regardless, this team has made BILLIONS in the time that JR has been Chairman of the Board. The Bulls Brand alone is valued at nearly $100M. Derrick Rose has been #1 or #2 in jersey sales for 3 seasons now. The team has made the playoffs (even more profit) 7 of the last 8 seasons. Since before the LT was even put into place, to win in this league, you have had to open the check book. That has only really happened once in the entire history of this franchise back in 97. I have to agree with alot of people on here that this team is run like a small market team when we are the 3rd biggest market in the US & one of the most popular teams Internationally.

Made Billions? Or the franchise with stadium is worth 1-2 billion? Big difference

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Fair enough. I just think the operations Howard had makes it very scary. I would rather have teh for sure thing in Bynum and lock him up long term.
Bynum isn't really a sure thing imo. He's had a ton of injuries like others said. This back thing is Howard's first major injury in his career I think. I think the odds favor Howard still even with the back thing. Now it could turn out that Howard ends up not being close to the player he was for whatever reason and Bynum does end up the better player, but I think the Lakers weren't completely sold on Bynum leading the team after Kobe retired either.

I am going to get roasted here, but Bynum was not that far behind Howard and now with Howard's injuries, I think the Lakers got slightly weaker at C

dwight howard is a bit better on defense,a better rebounder, and more athletic

bynum isn't terribly far behind..but dwight howard is the best overall big man in the game(love's D is horse crap compared to dwight's)

bynum is much more injury prone(yes, we know about dwight's back..but other than that he hasn't been hurt....bynum has a history of injuries in the same area) and more of a headcase on the court

i think howard will be fine after some rest..he's in good shape and not old so his injuries are not accentuated by his body breaking down with just age itself

I must say im disappointed in some of these Bulls fans posts. This Howard deal was terrible. I do believe the NBA has a hand in this deal. Theres no way you can begin to justify the Magic acceptiing this deal.

And hindsight doesnt cut it. Nobody makes these kinds of trades where a team give up a top three player in his priime, for a bunch of low (protected) picks , and C level journeymen. As well as unproven players. And were not talking about high draft pick unproven players, were talking about low picks. Not an Anthony Davis type unknown.

At what point do we admit that the NBA is fixed?

i agree that orlando should have gotten more, but at least they got dwight out of the way because it could have been much worse and dwight could have completely walked out on the team and they would have got nothing in return. They also traded away Jason Richardson who at this point is just an old chucker, they replaced him with a good shooter and defender and really good player in affalo. Seems to me they're trying to clear up some space and re-build, but at the same time, orlando was in a pretty precarious situation so it seemed like they were pressured a little in the deal and just was ready to get rid of howard.

Just last season alone, the Bulls pulled in just under $60M in operating income. The team has averaged $49M in OI the past 11 seasons. So, Yes, in the 28 years that JR has owned this franchise, the team has made well over a $1B.

dwight didnt end up in houston or brooklyn because he refused to sign an extension there. lets not forget, the lakers acquired howard for only ONE guaranteed year. this was not a risk other teams were willing to take, because the assets they offered up were younger prospects, and what not.

the lakers are on their last few years, so even if dwight doesnt sign after this year, kobe is pretty much done anyway, and they have extra cap room without dwight's $$. also, they dont have to deal with bynum's cryin ass or his overblown salary anymore.

they have 2 ways to go from here, either re-sign howard after this year and build around him after kobe leaves, or if they lose him, they have cap room and pau-tradebait to work with to try to rebuild for the future or even sign a different FA.

mitch kupchack is the man, plain and simple. garpax arent worthy to shine this guy's shoes.

What year will Derrick Rose join the Lakers?
:dunno:
Anyone?

Will that be what it takes to get GarPax fired once and for all?

and i gotta live in LA DAMMIT! this blows, seriously. i was really looking forward to laker mediocrity in the next few years. i could see it on the horizon. but now the dream is over. dwight is penciled in for 1 year, but if they win a ring, you know damn well hes staying. also, LA is an awesome place to live, minus everything lakers.

SO CLOSE!

Considering that the Lakers have always been my second favorite team to root for, I think ill be alright. :smug:
I can't wait for the season to start
I got my NBA League pass ordered.
Don't know how much Bulls basketball ill be watching this season, unless I'm looking for practical jokes and bloopers.
The 1999 2000 Bulls were probably more entertaining than this Bulls team is going to be.
