ND is horrible.
Yet Fangio starts Shea..... :lol and Urlacher said Shea was a great athlete.... yet we should take what you say, or Hub, as important? LOL!

Starts Shea as if there are so many guys that can play behind him this yr!!!

Shea being compared to Brian (at his peak) as an athlete is LOLridiculous.

Fangio also had a ton of talent in his front seven and i mean a TON of it. Comparing his 49ers defenses to this Bears defense is absolutely ridiculous.

Where Did I say 9ers? It's literally every coaching job he's ever had a the pro or college level. Your weak stawman is ridiculous.

I think Fangio starts Shea because he is the best of a limited group.

That and Fangio cares first and fore most about the defense being lined up right before he worries about a single position and Shea does that well.

actually his speed is very special for a guy his size

Shea is plenty fast. He is just not good at NFL level football. He is one of many fine athletes that can't play. No reason for people to knock the guy's natural ability. He was over drafted because of his combine performance.

I think this is basically the crux of how I feel....

I think it's great he has a high football IQ, but his physical shortcomings- and there are several- keeps his performance ceiling lower than where I am comfortable to just pencil him in as a starter for the next X yrs and move on to improving other positions of need. I'd rather have a guy who will take a yr to get things mentally, but who can physically play at a high level for an NFL starter and I think the ship has sailed on Shea ever doing that really.

Reminds me somewhat of G.B.'s obsession with AJ Hawk and how they never let go of the fantasy that he would be a dominant LB. In the end he just wasn't the athlete that could do that.

Hawk wasn't great at football but actually is a great athlete. He, like Shea, was over drafted because of his ridiculous combine performance. AJ put up some elite, top of the charts numbers0 He was second in the shuttle out of the whole damn combine!. He had a 40 inch vertical, that is ample evidence of his pure, god given talent. He just isn't that great at football. He is white so people naturally blame his mediocrity on talent, when his real problem is brains or instinct. http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft/combine/_/year/2006/sort/vertical/order/true

i agree, Hbk. he just doesn't make the best use of his speed, making poor or incorrect reads and taking bad angles. he also often overruns plays.

if he could just figure out and "see" the game, his speed would come into play and he'd start making impact plays. i think the dude moves with good fluidity, he just doesn't know where to go with it!

I think a lot of that's caused by being bounced all over the place and played out of position on top of being poorly coached. his improvement is coming now. I don't think the sky is the limit for the guy but im not ready to say his ceiling is HH
