It has been amazing watching TV/Twitter and seeing all the random people involved in the rescue mission. Wish I was closer to te flooded areas so I could help.

Got ~12 inches so far, getting at least 10 more. Luckily this is over a long period of time and our house is a bit elevated so it drains through the back fence.

This will help you visualize how much rain Houston is getting.

I was just looking at #HurricanHarvey on twitter and definitely cool to see all of the people coming to help. Sounds like the storm is going to linger for a few days and they could see 50+ inches of rain. That is catastrophic.

FEMA says the storm will last for days but they'll be there for years. It's a disaster.

we pay all these taxes, fines, dues etc to the government, whose job it is to be prepared for inevitable crisis, we just don't know if it will be earthquake, flood, hurricane, etc...

you got your flood insurance, fire insurance, bought for extra from your home insurance...and then they want the public to donate the emergency funds they already collected, and misspent on wars that whether they are effective at keeping us safe or not, we can't afford apparently.

I'm not trying to be a total dick. Just make sure your organizations you are running and donating to are not paying bills that fall to the government anyway, and have a high $ given to $ delivered to aid ratio. Non-profits can hide salaries and business costs as administrative costs and overpay themselves just like a corporation.

Find the ones that are picking up the pieces betweent he cracks, alleviating suffering and making people whole the government is going to miss or come short on.

This is how dire the situation is:
FEMA will likely be in Texas for years, and that Harvey will require one of the largest recovery housing efforts the nation has ever seen.
Harvey will likely surpass 2008's Hurricane Ike and 2001's Tropical Storm Allison, two of the most destructive storms to hit the Gulf Coast in recent memory

Joel Osteen is getting absolutely roasted on Twitter for not opening his 18,000 seat church. He says its flooded but people are driving by taking pics and it looks fine.

I just had a chance to see the pics and damn this is some bad news. I hope everyone there stays safe and helps their neighbor.
