Probably won't know that until the water recedes but I do know that 80% of the people effected do not have flood insurance.

So sad. Both his wife and dad were telling him not to go into work that morning because it would be too hard to get there. The guy simply said "we have work to do" and still went in. 100% hero.

Worst part of this all from northern spectators, waiting to hear from friends and family down there to see if they made it.

One of my old Army friends just got back online, said his family is okay, but home is destroyed. He's a hurricane magnet. Home was destroyed in Andrew, moved to NC where Floyd destroyed his home, then moved to Baton Rouge and Katrina destroyed his home there too. His family was one of the many displaced in Houston, and now this. WTF. God damn right he stores inflatable rafts in the roof of his house for the rest of his life.

IKR, have a F3-5 tornado cluster hit, flash flood the entire metro, all while the new madrid fault line shifts and we have a 7+ quake.

He stayed with me on an extended vacation a few years after Katrina and I tried to get him to move here. No house in Houston yet, just stayed with family in some kind of overcrowded housing situation until everyone resettled. He's the opposite of every southern and military stereotype you can imagine (because duh, stereotyping by it's nature is for lazy thinkers to begin with). So I didn't see why it would be an issue, but since he has a deep southern accent and his parents are from Uganda, people here of all backgrounds talked to him slowly and assumed he was some backwards person, when in fact he's seen more of the world and had more life experience than those profiling him will likely have for their entire lives. SO yeah, I know that comment is an immediate derail of this important thread, but suffice to say, he likely wouldn't want to move here. Sad, he's the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back, stop for a stranger on the side of the road, open doors for people, etc, while having the street smarts not to fall for traps and scams.

I'm safe and doing ok, all things considered. We were spared the massive flooding, but took the brunt of the northerrn eye wall in Refugio County for 5 hours as that storm stalled and lingered. This county will never be the same. Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Ingelside, Bayside and Rockport/Fulton basically took catastrophic damage. Eye got my family out safely. I've talked to numerous people that stayed and they all tell me the same thing; "I will never try to ride out a hurricane again." Just surprised there were not more fatalities in this area on that intitial landfall.
