I was a mod once, for a couple of hours. I wasn't appointed a mod; Jester noticed that the old CBMB mods left their secret mod info thread unlocked so that everyone could temporarily have access to it, and he gave me passwords. Instead of being responsible with them, I abused the power by going in the old chat room 'roided up on mod power and banned Bearsmod0707. Amazingly I only got a month for that one. I thought I'd be perma'd for sure.
