Gase had the niners job, but he turned it down when they wouldn't let him make Fangio the DC. So he brought fangio along with him to chicago. I'm sure Gase will have more opportunities to be HC, and I don't see why fangio would stay with this talent deficient defense. I'm sure Fox will be able to get other talented coordinators, but Gase and fangio are the cream of the crop.

I've always thought the plan all along was 2 years of Fox, with Gase taking over and Fangio sticking around as long as he'd like.
I'm curious though, is there anything to stop Gase from leaving though?

Ive figured gase was the heir apparent with the plan being fox bringing a veteran presence to help over see the rebuild and then a couple years down the line once pace/gase have their QB and the D has been brought back to a respectable level gase would take over.

but maybe thats just wishful thinking. and sure theres nothing stopping gase from leaving, but maybe hes cool with sticking around as OC for a bit if he knows the job is his sooner than later. especially if hell have a big say in who he has under center going forward.

Even if Gase was to get a HC job, the Bears don't have to let Fangio leave for a lateral move. More likely is if Gase leaves and comes to love the Fangio scheme is the loss of Ed Donatell, getting a bump from DB coach to DC, but even that isn't guaranteed. Coaches only must be released from contract to be HC's, though it would be uncool to not let a guy rise to DC.

The John Fox as interim rebuild HC is a complete fabrication, where does anyone get that he is just here to take a 5-11 team to 8-8/9-7ish and then walk away? That has never been stated or suggested. He is most likely the best Bears coach since Halas and only 60 yrs old and some of you are already set for his 2017 departure.

I have the same fear, but I don't know if Gase is ready for a head-coaching job. Some people are better coordinators because they don't have to worry about the other side of the ball.

There isn't.

My contention from the start of the whole Fox thing was this: Fox wasn't brought in to win, he was brought in for that culture change and to have a professional face for a team that was going to have a lot of young players in the coming years. When Gase balked at the 49er's job, it's my (perhaps misguided Spartan-esque belief) that he was told Fox wasn't going to stay longer than 2 years. I think Pace told Gase that he is welcome to take any interview that comes his way, but knowing that in 2 years the team would be his.

I said this same thing in another thread just a couple of days ago and his name was already mentioned as an option for the Dolphins job.

I'm pretty sure we hired Fangio before Gase right? If true then how did Gase bring Fangio with him to Chicago?

I agree. I saw some comments like that in another thread about him only being here to do a rebuild and then he's gone which sounds absolutely ridiculous and i never heard anything that even closely said anything like that. J.Fox is our guy and i'm good with that. I would love for Gase anf Fangio to stay for at least 3 years especially Fangio but both will be interviewed for head coaching jobs after this year.

I think Fox may be here for 7-10 years and wants to win a superbowl.

Guy has been there twice and lost to a better team in 2003 (Patriots) and at least as good of a team if not a better team in 2014 (Seahawks)

I don't think he went to Chicago to do 3 years of grunt work and let somebody else start winning playoff games.

Just curious, how often do coordinators get interviewed for head coaching positions when their team was just mediocre? It just seems most people here are not expecting the Bears to make the playoffs, and yet there's fear that the coordinators will get HC positions else where with a bad-mediocre finish. I'm not suggesting this isn't possible, but I would love some historical context.
