Ballistic missle launch about 35 miles out to sea by LA.

That is no small fucking missle (theres a video in the article). I dont know who or what civilian entity, could launch something like that.

Secondly it isnt in the governments best interest to launch a missle then claim ignorance, that doesn't put much faith in the continental defense grid.

and the response "we dont believe it poses a threat to the country" doesn't cut it. Any time someone can fire off a fucking missle within the range of the continental united states and remain anonymous scares the shit out of me.

Hate to rain on your parade brother, but who said it was "ballistic"?

*edit: Sorry, had to revise my definition of "ballistic". I thought it meant that it had a warhead attached. So I will just say, nobody said there was a warhead attached to the missile. lol

a bullet is ballistic......

•relating to or characteristic of the motion of objects moving under their own momentum and the force of gravity; "ballistic missile"

•Ballistics (gr. βάλλειν ('ba'llein'), "throw") is the science of mechanics that deals with the flight, behavior, and effects of projectiles, especially bullets, gravity bombs, rockets, or the like; the science or art of designing and accelerating projectiles so as to achieve a desired performance.

I didnt say it was a "nuclear warhead" which I assume is what you are implying.

Thanks for the definitions, that's what I checked to edit my reply. No, didn't neccessarily mean nuclear, just meant that it could have been a rocket with no type of warhead or bomb in it at all.

In any case, it is slightly disturbing that nobody is owning up to it yet but I will not lose sleep over it.

It could have been, but does that really matter? If someone can launch an unarmed missle and remain anonymous, they could do it with an armed one.

I do find this amusing (This isnt directed at you in particular) I have a feeling that will be alot of peoples reasctions to this. We have people freaking out like its the countries doom if a mosque gets built, but someone randomly fires off a missle, and they say "humpf....I think Jersey Shore is on".

I also like the response : "we dont believe it was any foreign power" ....well if you dont know, how the **** do you know that is wasnt a foreign power, unless you know who did it.

They said it appeared to be an airplane. I call bullshit. NO way is that an airplane. It's a missile launch. It better have been ours too.

Oh I agree, there is no doubt that most only care about what is on TV. I was just saying I don't care because if California fell into the ocean tomorrow it wouldn't bother me a bit (as long as the handful of friends I have there got out before it happened). Selfish? Yeah.

As someone who knows quite a bit about airplanes, and how they perform, I can tell you there is absolutely no airplane apart from the space shuttle that leaves that kind of contrail or is capable of climbing at the steep of a gradient. If a plane tried to use that climb gradient it would stall in about 150 feet.

Definitely a missile, not really something I'm worried about

At first I thought it was a spy satellite but it was out at sea. My theory is one of our new subs was testing a cruise missile. Why they did it so close to shore I'm not sure. Stupid move.

Tim, let me put it this way...I didn't hear anything about it at work. So it must not be a big deal

Some company was probably testing a new version. Just like 'ufos' at Area-51...testing.....

It was Don Rickles dropping his pants and firing off a rocket.

I have a bit of knowledge about airplanes as well, and I just gotta ask ya a few questions.

Was it really climbing? I have seen contrails at sunset and sunrise where the light is bouncing off of them(usually in a beautiful, dancing fashion) and it has appeared to me as though the aircraft is "climbing".

That said, if that is indeed an airplane, that contrail looks pretty damn strange.

Is that an official Navy statement? Wait a minute, Subs shoot their stuff in the water.

Is that why you had to work Sunday night?

Subs can shoot ICBMs and other surface missiles as well.

Most companies don't own Submarines capable of shooting off a ICBM.......

It was launched some 30 miles out to sea.

Bri, no, it is not an OFFICIAL statement, I can in no way make Statements like that in an OFFICIAL CAPACITY. And no, my working Sunday had nothing to do with that.

You are absolutely correct Phranck, they can shoot ICBMs and Cruise Missiles. I have seen both being launched up close and all personal like. It is NOT a cruise missile, contrail is way way too big. Couple things about the other type, contrail is about the right size, however, it is moving too slow across the horizon to be one, in my educated opinion. As far as my statement....let me change it a bit, wasn't one of ours, if it was launched by a Sub.
