I was in favor of the Bulls letting Gordon walk, but it kinda sucks seeing him in a different uniform.

Pippen in a Rockets uniform? Sad.
Frank Thomas in a Oakland A's uniform? Sad.
Jordan in a Wizards uniform? Sacrilege!

Gordon in a Pistons uniform? Nonchalance...

If I can get over losing Magglio Ordonez, one of my favorite players only to see him get replaced by the World Series MVP, this situation is going to be similar I believe...

The NBA isn't like baseball, you can't just go sign anyone without respect to team salary. Top end FA's usually almost never move here too. There also is no luxury tax or salary cap in baseball.

I check this board often and I find the infatuation with Ben Gordan to be a little weird. Either by podcast or post, everyone needs to let number 7 go. He's a Piston now. If you're Bulls fan, you need to live with that. If you're a fan of the NBA and not particularly a Bulls fan, please qualify that so that we know where you stand. Otherwise, as I said earlier, it's weird and boring to read or hear anything about Ben Gordon not being on the Bulls. Please move on.

It's hard to be a Bulls fan and not to be a Ben Gordon fan, because of everything he did for the franchise, and everything he did out on the court.

Hey I'm not denying that he was an awesome Bull on and off the court. I liked him as much as the next fan. It was great to trust a player to hit a shot when the game counted. That will be missed. I wish he had stayed. I regret that the Bulls didn't sign him. But objectively speaking, don't you think we (Bulls fans) should move on?

It gets a little frustrating to lose your third straight leading scorer in FA due to money. "It was a business is move" is a phrase that gives me nightmares and stops us from being the best team we can be.

Certainly. I agree it's frustrating but he never really gelled with the organization. It always seemed that he was a goner. Reinsdorf never gave him respect. It will be interesting to see if he has the same type of year that he had last year.
My big issue with the Gordon mourning is that it has created a weird Gordan camp vs. Hinrich camp atmosphere. It's ridiculous and lends nothing positive to discussion on the Bulls. It's like arguing who won in the Cartwright Oakley trade. It's done. Who cares? Hopefully we benefit. That's all.

It is a bit different. The bulls effictively chose Kirk over BG when they could have dumped him at the deadline and signed BG for a similar deal earlier in the year. So it really is to a degree BG vs Kirk. Its also easier to get over trading a good oakley for cartwright when you have no center and have a younger and better pf in grant ready and waiting. Not really the same situation as neither kirk or salmons are younger or better.

You have a much better explanation than many of the previous ones on this board and on certain podcasts. I also don't think the Bulls will keep Kirk in the long term. Once that contract is tradeable or expires, he's a goner. So in a sense, the Bulls dumped salary which as you mentioned, is the business side and is no good for the fan. Kirk's money is essentially Rose's future cash.

Who told you that there is no lux tax in baseball? That is not true. With the exception of a few teams, most of the teams in baseball have a budget. Don't need a salary cap necessarily. The point is the Sox replaced a very good allstar rightfielder, the Bulls can replace a decent SG.

It's hard to be a Bulls fan and not to be a Ben Gordon fan, because of everything he did for the franchise, and everything he did out on the court.

What? Not hard at all. Its hard to be a Bulls fan and not be a Jordan fan...its not hard at all to be a Bulls fan and not like anybody they have had since...because they have done nothing sense.

Ben Gordon did some things for the franchise, but Ben Gordon is = to Orlando Woolridge, guys who put up decent numbers for the Bulls, but did not bring them a championship, Ben is not the whole reason, but apart of the Bulls resergence and nothing more.

I see a good point here. To add, he was much more impressive last year than previous years. Coincidence? Also, where was his leadership? The problem with the teams recently is that nobody was the go to guy or leader on the floor. I liked Ben but he wasn't our long-term answer. Where was he when the Bulls were trying to knock off the Wiz, The Heat or Pistons?

Its quite a bit different don't you think? Woolridge didn't have a winning season his entire time in Chicago despite playiing half those years with MJ. In fact, he only had one season where he played a signifigant role and his team won over 30 games. The Bulls have won over 30 games every year he was here and had winning seasons all but one year. BG also did it as the best player most of the time, instead of second banana. Its not the same at all.

I also Miss Gordon and probably will miss even when the season starts but IMO, not having Gordon will really be better. Yes, we won't be a good 3pt shooting team or team that takes lot of 3pt shots but if you think about it for a moment, I think we will be a good enough team.

1) Since no more Gordon, it will be on Rose to deliver at the end of the 4th qtr and be clutch. I think we will see so many buzzer beaters by Rose this year (gut feeling).

2) Not having Gordon, will mean someone else will have to step up scoring. Rose will definitely up his scoring (IMO 21+ppg), Deng is healthy so he will add another 15-18ppg, having Salmons right from the get go, and he is a capable 18ppg scorer and a solid 3pt shooter, same with Hinrich who can also shoot 3pt shots.

3) Better defense: Not that I think Gordon was bad on defense but now we have a tall lineup out there and teams will think twice posting up Salmons/Deng etc. Hinrich is already known as a good defender and I am sure Rose will improve as well.

4) THE MOST IMPORTANT: The reason I am putting this 4 is there is no guarantee but we have a very good chance at going after D-Wade now. If we can sign D-Wade next year, then nobody will even remember Gordon (you know what I mean). This is why I don't mind taking a chance on this (by not signing gordon so we have money to go after Wade). I think there is a very good and LEGIT chance that Wade comes to his home town chicago - especially if Heat don't do well this year.
