I predict Starlin Castro goes on a tear once the trade deadline passes!

Well as of yesterday it appears that he is glued to the bench, until he can be moved. His press conference today loudly says that he just doesn't' t get it. He said that he was hurt and surprised by his benching and when asked if he would consider switching to another position, he said he would have to talk about with Cubs management. Hell, almost everyone on the team, not named Rizzo has played other positions this year.

He has said before that he would have no problem switching positions. Don't try to make a mountain out of nothing. The kid has started and considered a step away from being something special his entire career. He is 25 and lost his spot after having a great year last year. Im sure its tough on him. He is competitive like everyone else. He needs to keep his focus cause he is one injury or one big slump from someone else to be playing everyday again.

@ESPNChiCubs: Maddon said they are talking internally about Castro maybe working at other positions but haven't talked to him yet.

I said last year that he probably could make a good CFer... I think he would have good range out there and he has a strong arm..

I think once he gets comfortable out there, hed probably be a better CFer then SS

Castro has ZERO lateral quickness. An outfield of Schwarber in LF, Castro in CF, and Soler in RF would be the worst outfield you will ever seen. None of the three have range to make plays in the gap.

Castro has zero lateral quickness? LOL. Lateral quickness is an essential of being MIF.

Zero lateral quickness ?

besides getting to ground balls hit to both sides, he gets to numerous pop flies in foul territory, etc

What does changing his defensive position have to do with his struggles at the plate? I doubt he will start hitting .300 again just because he is moved to the OF.

It makes him a more valuable bench player and more versatile. Thus more tradeable.

The only time a guy is tradable is when he is doing well. Playing more positions is fine and dandy. But his contract is not the contract of a role player. Thus his highest return value is as a SS or a CF. IE starter.

SS is getting stronger league wide. CF not so much. So if you are thinking of converting him for a year then selling him as a CF then I could see that logic.

Disagree. As long as he gets enough AB's and looks to be clicking, he will be tradable.

If he does get back on track, which I'm sure he will, because he has before and he's proven to be a good hitter. Would we want to trade him? I don't.

He has never been an Epstein type of player at the plate. I generally thought of him as a player they would trade this off season. I could be wrong. He could possibly take CF, but then who is leadoff? They already have a great util in Coghlan.

Unfortunately, I don't think he will have the time to do it as a Cub.

As Parade Rain said, he isn't an Epstein guy at the plate, and I will go a step further and say I don't think he is an Epstein guy at all. Or at least not anymore.

Had the Cubs been in the same position last year as they are this year, you very well could have seen them sell high on Castro. But being that they were starting a bunch of young guys and had so many question marks, I think they felt they needed veteran leadership, and Castro and Rizzo were the Cubs incumbants in that area.

Castro is on this team for only one reason IMO. Theo asked for the moon and people only offer meteors.

He is still young. He may just need a fresh environment where there are not all of these better SS options around him.

I've felt that he is worth 2 young arms. Around Cory Black quality.

Castro could just hit .300 next year and it would look like a steal.

My issue with him is you don't know which Castro you are getting each year.

Theo's smart enough to have accepted meteor offers!! I think they offered him Uranus, and he told them to call back when they had some better shit to offer.

The issue is no one's buying the snowjob Theo was trying to sell.

Maddon says he's going to start working out at 2B and 3B. I mean you'd have to figure that would happen but now it's confirmed.
