Meatball Myth: Waaah Trestman refuses to run the ball!! Waaaah!!!

Facts: 22.4 rushes per game in 2014. 25.2 rushes per game in 2013. Matt Forte averaged 18.1 rushes per game in 2013, and 16.5 so far in 2014.

It'd be cool if people stopped exaggerating and repeating this "he refuses to establish a run game" nonsense because of one game in Detroit and act like that's been every game. Nobody was whining about this shit last season. I don't think 3 more rushes per game would have magically made the season turn out differently.

Hell I don't think rushing 40 times a game would change anything except maybe make the scores even more lopsided. People would just bitch even more that Trestman isn't utilizing the talent on offense by asking 5 pass blocking offensive linemen to be road graders all game trying to play smashmouth football with an offense built to run a pass first WCO and utlize the talent at TE and WR.

Over the course of a 3 week stretch THIS season (I can't remember which, so use that against me) we were a 70/30 pass team. We are currently a 56/44 pass team, which is acceptable.

But what pisses me off isn't the ratio. It's playcalling/situational mismanagement of this offense. We don't run the ball in scenarios that it should be run in. And please don't say that teams are loading the box on us. They haven't been.

If its 1st and 10 and Trestman calls a run play and the defense calls a run blitz should Jay just be a mindless robot and run the play that was called even though he knows it's doomed to fail so the fans don't get upset they don't run the ball enough?

And then when the play inevitably get's stuffed for -6 is it Trestman's fault for shitty play calling or is that Cutler's fault for not making an adjustment at the line to get them out of a doomed play?

Is the expectation that Trestman should be dialing up perfect plays to beat whatever defense is called every down? Does Cutler have any responsibility to do anything to manage the game at the line of scrimmage?

Is Trestman supposed to not utilize basic tenets of football like screen passes to slow down the rush or having WRs sit down in the open spaces of zones because people complain they run to many hook routes?

Is he supposed to have Cutler keep slinging it deep even when he's been wildly inaccurate deep all season?

If he's reigned in the offense to account for the accuracy issues of the QB and is running shorter routes that give the QB a better chance to succeed since he's been much more accurate with the short passing game isn't that what people say they want their coach to do? You know, call plays to the strengths of their players?

Is smash mouth running a strength of this team?

Do we have even the personnel to run that sort of gameplan?

Just seems to me most people just bitch to bitch without even taking any of this stuff into consideration.

Every coach has forgotten more about the game than any of us know. But Trestman's repeated refusal to establish even a modicum of a run game, and absurd usage of the screen game is very very concerning...

I agree. I don't care if you don't trust your QB at all but the amount if screens and abandonment of the run
Game is disturbing.

Trestman kicked a 44 yard field goal on 2nd down. 2nd fucking down. Justify away. He's an idiot.

I'm most certainly serious. I believe that the quickest cure to the ills of the Bears is to get Trestman a good QB. Meatballs hate marc, but that is just because they are predjudiced against anyone with superior intellect.

You just described the quickest cure to most bad teams.... Get a good QB.

I just want a good head coach.

I don't care if he coaches offense, defense, special teams, or girls volleyball.

Someone who will bring some discipline, accountability, and toughness to the team. And before someone says it I do not think you need to yell and spit to do those things.

Not every defensive head coach is Lovie, and does not care about or know a out offense.

I have no problem with a defensive minded head coach as long as he has an acceptable plan for the offense coordinator position.

To me there are no geniuses on either side of the ball and every scheme in the book has been designed and run thru the years. What a team needs are people who can man whatever scheme they select and to design things to over-whelm the other team in any way that they can. And the other thing they need is someone who grown men can work for and play for. It is so simple yet so lacking both in athletics, business and government.

Dude looks like Franco Harris. I think i would change my look if i had the same one as the guy who to this day steadfastly defended the child molesting coverup at Penn state.

Doesn't mick always bring up that Forte is averaging over 4ypc on 1st downs? You don't think he should be getting the ball more? Or that maybe the offense needs more balance?

I wish some of you cocksuckers would stop freaking out on every single person who has an idea. None of us really know shit. No need to call everyone a bunch of idiots and make fun of them. Direct your rage at Cutler and Trestman.

I don't care how good of a DC he is. I have ZERO interest in another "defensive minded" HC and going back to the stone age relying on the defense and special teams to score and win games while the offense just burns time.

If you want to bring in a DC fine, let him take over for Tucker as the new DC and fix the defense.

You call others meatballs but it's you who are not seeing things clearly. At this point in Trestmans tenure, what DC could he realistically get to fix the defense in enough time to save Trestmans job. People know he's on thin ice. So, meatball, do you honestly see Trestman winning enough without fixing the defense? And who do you realistically see the Bears getting, that's also good, under these circumstances?

So you want a pass happy offense even if it means going 8-8. So what makes everyone else a meatball while you're not?
