If Cutler doesn't put it together this year, its never going to happen

i'm the biggest cutler fan and supporter, but its put up or shut up time he turns 30 next year. he is getting too old for the "he has so much potential" talk. if he doesn't put up career numbers and play great then he is who he is. a above average qb who is erratic at times and lacks leadership intangibles

So in other words he'll be what FT and Rory say he is.

I agree. And I'm a huge supporter of him. He needs to have great numbers to justify a new contract and he needs to stay HEALTHY!

Two out of the past three years he's not finished the season. Granted, one of them was a fluke injury to his thumb and he does happen to play behind the worst oline in the NFL, he's got to stay healthy and under center.

Time to break out Jay, we fucking need you man!

I agree with the OP and for the rest of you, offer some proof. Saw this the other day. It's a list of QBs and how they did over their first 4 years and then how they did after that. They tend not to get much better.

If you don't see the "potential" come to fruition in the first 4 years, there's a great chance it never will.

Though I agree w/ your last part, a counter-argument would be that he posted pretty solid #s his first few years (pro-bowler his 3rd year), and last season he posted hsi best TD/INT ratio of his career....and now he's got more weapons than he's ever had in his career.

I agree that this year might be a make-or-break year for him....and he needs to lead the Bears deep into the playoffs in order to make everyone believe/get that big contract.

He already put up career numbers in Denver years back and where did that get him?

(8-8 and watching the playoffs on his couch)

Cutler really needed to learn how to win. And for all the odds stacked against him...he's learned that here.

Now that he's got all his toys....I still don't expect 4,500 yards passing....I only expect the offense to consistently move down the field.

I expect 10-12 wins every season for the next five years...that's what I want out of Jay Cutler and the rest of the Bears. And while I'll admit that Jay can be the biggest jerk in the league at times...I do believe he's going to win a lot of games here and just maybe take us to the promised land.

(hopefully before we break Urlacher for good)

I put the focus on the chart, not the article.

Which was also horrible. The league has changed since 2006...there wasn't as much emphasis on the passing game as there is now.

Yeah lets just cut the bum. Why even wait. I mean this org has such a rich history of identifying and developing talented QB's they could easily just replace him now and not waste another year of everyone time. Checkdown Charlie II could even run the show. That guy looked AMAZING this preseason! Then maybe Rush can create another QB sub-forum to house the next 25 years of threads crying about the position! It'll be great!

When did 30 become old? ROFL!

Manning is still playing and Farve played until he was 43 years old.

Cutler will do as well as the offensive line will provide him. Cutler's leadership is fine. You are not in the huddle with him.

Not that much. Not like it was decades ago. The glaring point is if you don't see it in a QB within his first 4 years, he, very likely, just doesn't have it. Only QBs I can think of who recently showed a lot of improvement after their first 4 years would be Eli, and maybe Alex Smith last year, but he still was far from great. It was just a thing of Harbaugh coaching him up and simplifying things for him to make him a better game manager.

Yeah the Bears are so great at drafting, and getting QBs like Cade McNown, Rick Mirer, Rex Grossman, Kyle "Failure" Orton, Calib Hankie, and others.

Even Cutler is above average it is still enough to take the Bears to the playoffs, or at least compete in the NFC otherwise this is a lottery team.

Cant talk sense into these fantasy football nerds. Tom Brady put up pedestrian number when he was part of a team that won 3 superbowls, now his stats are inflated and he's 0-2. Where did brees record setting year get him last year? Where did Rodgers eye popping td to int ration get him last year? Cant talk common sense to fantasy nerds. Spartan is all about Qb rating but at the same time Neil Lomax has a better qb rating than John Elway, i thnk TONY ROMO has the 2nd highest qb rating EVER, so according to the all important qb rating tony romo is the 2nd best qb ever to put on a helmet!!!! Joe Montana never threw 4000 yards in a season, john Elway never put up more than 27 tds in a season, Brett Favre's TD:int ratio is a pedestrian 1.5!!!

His last 30 games, he's 21-9. That's what I hope continues.
