I forgot to also include that I'd live with Fisch
I don't know if that place was around when I was there. If it were, I can't imagine the group I was with wouldn't want to go there.I was about to begin comparing Omaha to such glittering cities as Iowa City or Dead Horse. Then I found this:
http://www.oldchicago.com/omaha-downtown
only quoting this to say "thanks" because the thanks button is disabled1) It says in the U.S., not the world.
2) Downtown Chicago is awesome as ****. As far as urbanity goes, only Manhattan is better. Maybe he likes city life, don't see anything wrong with that at all.
Thus says the man who considers IHOP a good place for breakfast.
LOL

It's not what you think. It's actually a very nice city, that offers a lot. It's been awhile since I've been there, but either the east or west side of the city has a pretty old district where you have a bunch of different restaurants, shops, and activities. Easy to get around the city, decent golf courses, and a couple of billionaires who invest in the city.
I should have also said I've been spoiled by Colorado the last 5 years too.
Omaha seemed like a decent place driving through but I would miss the mountains too much
Either:
downtown Chicago,
Portland, OR
San Diego, CA
Bumblefuck, AZ
somewhere awesome, Colorado
Colorado is pretty awesome. The one reservation I have about CO is the distance to the coast. That aspect of it would drive me a little nuts. My biggest beef with Omaha, is what you just said...it's so damn flat. Florida is too I guess, but I love the beach about as much as I love the mountains. Currently doing the beach thing, but am strongly considering moving up to western NC at some point in the next few years for a change of pace.
That said, Omaha is actually a pretty great place to live. Really low unemployment, good schools, cost of living is fairly cheap and there is a lot more to do there than most people realize. I think the metro area is somewhere around 800k people, but things are pretty spread out. They keep building further and further west. Eventually I am guessing that it will basically connect with Lincoln. The Old Market is a lot of fun...lots of great restaurants, bars, art etc down there. Pretty easy to get around, traffic is rarely bad.
Prope, if you are serious about moving there at some point...I can give you a run down on all the areas to help you whittle down where you might want to live. It's been over 10 years since I lived there, but I doubt that much has changed.
Better have some coin to live there as that shit is expensive.
Chicago
South Bend, Indiana
Tybee Island, Georgia
New Orleans
Naples, Florida
Hamtramck, Michigan
Why Naples?, it's full of old people and semi-old people with breast implants.
Try 40 miles north, Ft. Myers actually has a night life.
I've noticed a lot of Chicago area transplants in SW Florida, for whatever reason.
It's quiet and relaxing. Plus my grandparents had a house there.
There are a bunch in Central FL as well. It was more a comment on the concentration level. For example, South FL (Miami, Palm Beach County) seems to be mostly New Yorkers and people from Boston. Central FL is kind of a mixed bag. SW FL seems to skew more heavily to the Chicago area and midwest in general.
