My favorite teams
So, I am already starting to take a look at tape on both Williams and Maye. I just got a feeling that this whole situation is going to be a crash and burn with the Bears and we will be picking a new QB this spring.
If you have your choice of who you want between Williams and Maye, who do you want and why?
I think right now (its still early), I am actually leaning Maye.
I know Williams gets all the hype, and so I started there watching highlights, and being aware that all I am seeing is both players at their best (hence why I said it was early).
But I found some things interesting.
When watching Williams, he does have this dynamic, Mahommesian way of creating, but it seems like he's a lot like Fields, where most of his success comes when he breaks out of the pocket and gets to freelance. Plus, I don't know if it's just his team is so much better than Drakes, but he's always tossing to wide open wide receivers, at least so far. Another thing is he seems to be careless with the ball, like how Fields will run around with it in one hand looking to throw and gets it swatted away to cause a fumble. He just reminds me a lot of what we already have in Fields, and Justin's Ohio State tape.
So then I put on Drake Maye's 2022 highlight reel. He seems to have some wheels (not like Fields, but good enough), and can also create out of the pocket, but he also has some good tape where he hangs in the pocket and delivers a strike over the middle. He also has delivered some very precise balls in some very tight coverage on his wide receivers, something that is almost a requirement to succeed in the NFL.
So, while I reserve the right to change my mind, right now, Maye looks like the more appealing option to me.
What do the rest of you think? I don't watch college football, so clue me in on your thoughts.
