If the top 3 choices for the Bears really are Johnson, Monken and McCarthy....

Georgia won with their defense not their offense. Dirk Koetter was in charge of calling plays two out of three years in Tampa and it was entirely Koetter's scheme that he ran. Monken is underwhelming at best.

The safest bet is probably McCarthy but even then you run the risk of him being John Fox part 2.

They had a coach fall into their lap last year and they should have fired Eberflus hired him. Instead they fired him a year late. Same thing they're about to do with Poles.... fire him a year too late.

Koetters offense was mediocre until Monken took over. He turned an average offense into a top 10 offense w/ Fitzmagic and Jameis.

Georgia had a top 10 offense in CFB 2021 and 2022. WTF are you talking about? They were top 5 in Yards per play and top 10 in pts.

So, reading between the lines here - you aren't really being serious at all about the most recent coaching search because you still are throwing a pissy-fit over them not hiring Harbaugh last year (who also happened to get bounced in round 1 of the playoffs this year)?

Got it.

Serious? They're going to make a hire. I have no idea if it will be the right one. Johnson and McCarthy are the two I'd prefer they hire from.

No I don't want Monken.

I want an offensive guy.

Nagy never called plays and Trestman was never good. It would be unchartered territory if they hire an offensive guy who has had success

Like I noted before, this is as good of an indication that monken will be a good NFL coach as any.

I think you're in luck then. Some of the reporters are reporting that it's going to be a two horse race between McCarthy and Johnson.

Being in mix for these top candidates isn’t anything to brag about. It’s a bad hiring cycle with no clear cut top choice. I believe Naggy was the hottest candidate when he was hired but that was awhile ago not 💯 sure

I remember the Giants getting Daboll as the hottest candidate and offensive genius. Is there a worse offense in the NFL?

Can anyone remember a time when the Bears were in the mix for arguably the top, hottest candidates in a coaching cycle?

I was talking about this with a co-worker, and usually the Bears are fishing from the B or C tier of coaches, getting turned down left and right, etc when they go to hire a coach.

But I would argue that nationally, Johnson is the hottest candidate out there in terms of popularity and interest, McCarthy is up there as well, and while Monken is a little bit of a sleeper, he seems to have caught fire lately and is on par with Coen and Brady as well as the aforementioned coaches. Combine that with Vrabel, who went to New England, and I would classify that bunch as "Tier A" or the top tier. Doesn't mean that they will all work out, but that seems to be the coaches everyone is talking about this cycle as being ready and deserving for a shot or another shot at HC.

True that the Bears were interviewing everyone and their mothers up until this point.

But if their finalists do end up being Johnson, Monken, and McCarthy, and they land one of those 3 - would this be the best finalist list you guys can remember in Bears history at least since Ditka and the Superbowl win? I feel like its a somewhat recent thing (last 20 years or so) where even knowing who the finalists for the job are even became a thing...
Yes, when we hired Nagy

As I already covered, that class and those finalists as a group do not match up to the alleged finalists we have for the job now.

Maybe try reading.

Have you ever heard the phrase it's about the Jimmys and Joes more than the Xs and Os?

There's a lot of truth to that. Daboll is a competent offensive guy who had Daniel Jones as his QB.

I don't know if you've listened to Tim Jenkins talk about the Bears offensive scheme this year, but the poor of the Bears offense this year was borderline unprecedented in how poor the scheme was.

So the hope is mere competence in scheme will get a lot more out of this offense.

But to truly be great Caleb Williams is going to have to develop in a big way.

Give him a break, he's got a lot on his plate tracking Ben Johnson's private jet while also monitoring THE STORM (which is coming earlier this morning)

Speaking of Jimmy and Joes, if I had to name the top 5 players this past weekend of playoff football, 3 of them were certainly Daniels, Carter and Verse. Collectively, and combined with his GM record, why is Poles still here?

We’ve been asking that since last year
